James Abbett Obituary

James R. Abbett, 74 of Columbus, Indiana passed away October 1, 2024 at his residence. He was born December 29, 1949 in Columbus, Indiana. He was the son of Oran K. and Virginia (Taulman) Abbett.

He is survived by his children, Brian (Kelly) Abbett of Columbus, Indiana, Robert (Celia) Abbett of Kentucky, Troy Abbett of Columbus, Indiana, and Jamie Castro of Franklin, Indiana, caregiver and granddaughter, Casey Stroud of Edinburgh, Indiana, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and sisters, Beverly Morris of Edinburgh, Indiana, Kay Gray of Edinburgh, Indiana, and Sue Capps.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Oran "Butch' Abbett.

James was a member of the Edinburgh American Legion, Post 233, and a life member of the Moose Lodge and Eagles Lodge in Columbus, Indiana. He retired from Arvin Automotive and Milestone. He was an avid golfer, IU Basketball and Indianapolis Colts fan, and enjoyed watching all sports.

A memorial service will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Friday, October 11, 2024 at Eskew-Eaton Funeral Home in Edinburgh, Indiana. Calling will be from 5:00 PM until time of service.
