Marianne Arnholt Obituary

Marianne Arnholt, age 94, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2025 at Traditions of Columbus. She was born November 23, 1930 in Shelbyville, IN to Russell and Enid Wendell. She graduated from Columbus High School in May 1948, and on June 27, 1948 married Dale Albert Arnholt at First Christian Church. Together they built a life together raising their family and farming for 74 years. Marianne was a member of St. Paul (Clifty) Lutheran Church (LCMS) for 77 years.

One of Marianne's true joys came from her children and grandchildren. Her other interests included cooking for her family, flowers, bird watching, and reading (especially the Bible). She was known for her outgoing personality, and she never met a stranger. She enjoyed sharing the unconditional love of Jesus Christ with others, including many children at St. Paul, serving as a Sunday School teacher for over 60 years.

She was an active member of the Republican Party throughout her life. She received the Distinguished Hoosier Award from Gov. Robert Orr in 1987, and Precinct Committee Person of the year in 2005. She was also active member of the Flower Lane Garden Club, and the Sandcreek Township Home Economic Club.

She is proceeded in death by her much-loved husband, Dale, in 2022. Their legacy together lives on through their five children, eleven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. Their children are: Tom (Mary Kay) Arnholt, Brentwood, TN; Barbara (Steve) Sorgius, Greenwood, IN; Beverly (Steve) Chinn, Seymour, IN; Mary (Carl) Shaffer, Columbus, IN; and Tim (Angie) Arnholt, Columbus, IN. Grandchildren: Shondra (Andrew) Zaborowski, Arlington, VA; Britani (Andrew) Sepanski, Zionsville, IN; Bradley (Ashley) Sorgius, Zionsville, IN; Keith (Elizabeth) Sorgius, Indianapolis, IN; Stacey Sorgius, Arcada, CA; Jessica Arnholt (Ben Kleinfelter), Nashville, TN; Emily Arnholt, Nashville, TN; Stella Arnholt, Columbus, IN; Pierce Arnholt, Columbus, IN; Dillon (Hannah) Shaffer, Indianapolis, IN; Mason (Cami) Shaffer, Denver, CO; and Blake Shaffer, Indianapolis, IN. Great-grandchildren: Eden and Nadia Zaborowski, Tyler and Ila Sepanski, Briggs and Bowen Sorgius, Will Sorgius, and Carter Shaffer.

Marianne's visitation hours will be Saturday, September 6 from 10:00 AM-12:00 noon at St. Paul Lutheran Church (6045 State St. Columbus, IN 47201) followed by the funeral service. She will be buried next to her husband, Dale, at the church cemetery. Pastor Doug Bauman officiating.
