Thomas Woods Obituary

Thomas Gary Woods, 73, of Columbus, IN, passed away Sunday, November 2, 2025. He was born in Columbus on January 6, 1952 to Thomas J. Woods and Pearl Gertrude Seymour Woods. He married Teresa L. Stanton on June 10, 1972.

Gary's early years in Columbus were the foundation of a life characterized by hard work and dedication. A proud graduate of Columbus High School in 1970, he furthered his education at Vincennes University, where he graduated in 1972.

For many years, Gary was a dedicated employee at Cummins Engine Company, where he retired in 2004. His industrious nature led him to venture into entrepreneurship, as he owned and operated Woods Mowing Service. This business was not just a job for Gary; it was a passion project that allowed him to work outdoors and spend precious time with his son, Jason. He also cherished those Jeep rides with his Bratty Bear. (Holly)

Gary was a man of faith and fellowship, an active member of Grace Lutheran Church, His interests were varied and reflected his love for life and the outdoors. He could often be found riding his bike to meet friends at Burger King, a simple pleasure that brought him immense joy. His neighbors would smile as they saw him riding his tractor through the neighborhood, a testament to his love for community and connection.

An avid fisherman, Gary found peace at the water's edge, and his love for mowing and tending to his yard was evident in the meticulous care he took of his property. Camping trips were adventures he cherished, opportunities to be at one with nature and to create memories with those he held dear.

Gary's portrayal of Santa Claus during the holiday season was a role he treasured. His ability to bring joy and wonder to children's faces was a gift he gave generously. However, the greatest treasure in Gary's life was his family. He was a devoted grandfather who found immense happiness in taking his grandchildren to Disney World, creating magical experiences that will be treasured forever.

Always seen with a smile on his face, Gary's positive outlook on life was contagious. His legacy is one of love, laughter, and the joy of spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, November 6, 2025 at Grace Lutheran Church with Pastor Todd Riordan officiating. Calling hours will be from 9 a.m. Thursday until service time at the church. A live stream of the service may be viewed on the church website: www.gracecolumbus.org.
