Jonathan Felt Obituary

Jonathan Seth Felt

Jonathan Seth Felt, fiercely loyal father and tremendous family man, passed gently in his sleep on Sunday, October 21, 2018 He was 69-years-old and a longtime resident of Ridgefield

Jon was a dichotomous spirit who enjoyed his solitude as much as he enjoyed his hour-long chats with strangers at Starbucks He could strike up a conversation with anyone, captivating them with his humor and wit, leaving all those in his wake with a smile, laugh or amused shake of their head He was the ultimate funny guy with unwavering optimism who radiated kindness, generosity and warmth wherever he went

Beyond Jon's academic studies at Collegiate and Wesleyan, he was a student of life and the world He was always looking to learn from new experiences and on a constant journey of self-improvement and educationExceptionally well-read, well-spoken and well-traveled, Jon preferred to see the world through quiet, less traveled paths than loud, bustling streets Ironically, as a born-and-raised New Yorker, Manhattan always remained his first love

In 1986, he moved to Ridgefield and started a family with his then-wife and still loving friend, Doreen Jon built his life in Ridgefield, raising two daughters whom he adored and participating as an active community member until his last day He devoted years to coaching, volunteering and mentoring for the Soccer Club of Ridgefield, his daughters' high school and premier soccer teams, Four Seasons Racquet Club and Ridgefield Lakes Association More recently, he loved walking his granddog, Mickey, down Ridgefield Main Street and the hiking trails of Lake Windwing in any weather

Professionally, Jon was an accomplished film producer and director He had an eye for capturing the beauty around him and was quick to teach others who were just as eager to learn Working with ABC 20/20 for many years, he spotlighted endless incredible stories for the world Jon brought home numerous awards for groundbreaking documentaries like The Men Who Brought The Dawn, which highlighted the Enola Gay crew that dropped the first atomic bomb, and produced official pieces for Olympic Games alongside Bud Greenspan During his time with Greenwich Workshop, Jon profiled artists such as James Christensen, Howard Terpning, Bev Doolittle, Charles Wysocki and James Gurney in stunning and artful audiovisual storytelling

His love and patronage for the arts in all forms stemmed from his beloved mother, Elaine, a board member of the New York City Ballet and Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts He shared his love of music and Broadway with his sister, Connie, and was always discovering new genres and artists to add to his cd collection His love affair with sports began as a boy Growing up in Madison Square Garden, he spent season after season of his childhood watching hockey games home and away Jon squeezed in homework and studying during intermissions so that he would never miss a single game The opening of the Garden and Felt Forum solidified his family's legacy in MSG history just as much as his own undying devotion to the New York Rangers

He was deeply loved and will be forever missed by the many friends, family and loved ones whose lives crossed paths with his throughout the many adventurous and fascinating chapters of his time

Jon is survived by his two daughters, Danika and Alissa Felt, granddog, Mickey Felt, and former wife yet cherished friend, Doreen Felt He was predeceased by his parents, Irving Felt and Elaine Edelman Felt, sister, Constance Felt, dog Henrietta and horse Rocky

Family and friends will be received on Thursday, October 25, 2018 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield Interment will take place on Friday, October 26, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Mount Hebron Cemetery, Queens, NY
