Joy Burch

Joy Burch was born and raised in Hughson, CA on the family farm where she never felt the depression era shortages because they raised, grew, milked, & preserved all they needed for a bountiful life. She lived this lifelesson which she passed on and role modeled to her children & grandchildren. Joy graduated from Hughson High School and moved to the city of Modesto. She was ready for city life & adventures. She found work as a secretary and continued her higher education into the business sector eventually securing a job with the state of California in Sacramento. She worked on and off for the State for more than 20 years in the Departments of Higher Education and Transportation in Sacramento and Sierra Conservation Center in Jamestown. She began 60 years of delightful marriage in 1952 with her "damn near perfect" Don and had three daughters who brought unending happiness to their lives. Fun was important to Joy and together the family learned the importance of it. She & Don loved to dance and enjoyed traditional Dixieland festivals on the east coast, New Orleans, and the world. They societies including San Joaquin, Sacramento.Spending time with family she made sure to enjoy every opportunity. At the age of 92, Joy passed away peacefully feeling the love of her family; Mary Lou, Charley, Madelyne, Monica, Marjorie, Bob, Michelle and Jennifer. A private memorial and internment services were held at Lakewood Memorial Park. The family asks that in lieu of fl owers or gifts, please make a donation to a local Dixieland Jazz organization to help perpetuate this music that was such an important part of her life.the family learned the importance music which they followed to were both active members of many northern California jazz Modesto, South Bay, Fresno, and was a priority in Joy's life and
