Max Witt Obituary
Born January 4th, 1955 in Swain County, Max was the son of the late Maxwell Cyrus Witt and Helen Edwards Witt. He was a graduate of UNC Chapel Hill with a bachelor's degree in political science. Max started a career as an accountant before becoming a stay-at-home dad to home school his two children K-12.
In his early years he enjoyed fishing with his dad at Deep creek and playing sports with his best friend Mike. Max also loved playing and coaching baseball with his children. Max loved the outdoors and the wild west. From hiking in national parks on many summer vacations with wife and family to local hiking with his dog Annie and wife Jody.
Surviving is his wife of 40.5 years, Jody Atzenhoffer Witt; followed by his children Amy Witt Long and her husband Matthew Long; Matthew McKinley Witt and his wife Emily Witt; his grandson, Axl Long; his dog Annie and his best friends Mike Heffner and his wife Sharon Heffner.
A memorial service will be held in honor of Max's life at Hillside Baptist Church 10:30am on February 17th in Bryson City, NC. We ask that you please attend the service in a colorful attire & not black. Max preferred Tarheel blue.
For those that cannot attend the memorial in Bryson City, there will be a floating visitation at Antioch Baptist Church in Chapel Hill for friends and family to honor Max and his family on February 10th from 1-3pm.
In lieu of flowers, Max's wishes are to please make a donation to the Orange County Animal Shelter, where his beagle mix, Annie was adopted. You may make a donation to the Orang County Animal Shelter, www.orangecountync.gov/Phone: 919-942-PETS(7387), or mail a check to: Orange County Animal Services, 1601 Eubanks Road, Chapel Hill, NC 27516.
