Michael Ernest Snyder

1940 - 2024

Michael Ernest Snyder, 83, of Albemarle, passed away Saturday, January 13, 2024, at his home.
Mike was born in West Brookfield, Massachusetts on August 14, 1940. He was the youngest of four sons born to the late Edward John Snyder and the late Margaret O'Brien Snyder. These were his brothers, Ed, Roger and Bruce, all of whom preceded him in death.
Mike moved to Albemarle, North Carolina in 1958 when the family business relocated. He was a graduate of Belmont Abbey College in 1962 and went on to became Vice President of research and development for E.J. Snyder and Company where he remained until the business closed in 2005.
Mike was honorably discharged from the U.S. Marine Corp Reserves in 1967.
He was actively involved in many civic organizations as both a volunteer and board member.
Mike is survived by his wife, Karen; five children from a previous marriage to Martha Huckabee Lowder, Ellen, Katherine, Michael, Bill and Brian; and 11 grandchildren.
Mike laid in state at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, from 12-5 p.m. The Funeral Mass was on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of the Annunciation Catholic Church in Albemarle co-celebrated by Father Peter Fitzgibbons and Abbot Placid Solari of Belmont Abbey. Burial followed at the Fairview Memorial Park at 1425 East Main Street, Albemarle. A catered reception followed the committal service in the Family Life Center at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Belmont Abbey College scholarship endowment.
