Alberta Martin Obituary

BENTON -- Alberta Martin, 88, "went home to be with the Lord," on Tuesday evening, April 24, 2012.

She was born Sept. 13, 1923, in Valier, the daughter of Cecil and Viola (Payne) Bond.

Mrs. Martin was married to Carl P. Martin for more than 60 years, and he preceded her in death June 27, 2003.

Mrs. Martin was an active member of First Baptist Church in Benton for more than 50 years, and was serving as a member on the deacon board. She was instrumental in organizing Lucy Helm Mission Circle.

She enjoyed her years being a member of Franklin County Home Extension. Mrs. Martin had worked at Biebel Roofing, and she and her husband co-owned and operated the Benton Locker Plant and Benton Lawn Inc.

She thoroughly enjoyed in the last few years playing cards and dominos with her friends.

Mrs. Martin is survived by her three sons, Bob Martin and wife, Linda, of Benton, Bill Martin and wife, Pam, of Benton and Dave Martin and wife, Jeani, of Trussville, Ala.; grandchildren, Matthew Martin and wife, Melanie, of Belleville, Michael Martin and wife, Tammy, of Mount Vernon, Mallory and Mackenzie Martin of Benton, Mariah Hayes and husband, Dale, of Benton, Vincent, Coleman and Sara Martin of Trussville, Ala.; five great-grandchildren, Hagan, Lucas, Elliot, Maddie and Cade; sister, Ceal Beck of Benton; nephew, Craig; and niece, Kelly.

Mrs. Martin was preceded in death by her parents; and husband.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 27, in First Baptist Church in Benton with the Rev. Mark Minor officiating. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mrs. Martin's memory may be made to First Baptist Church, 201 S. Main St., Benton, IL 62812.

Morton and Johnston Funeral Home in Benton is in charge of arrangements.
