BENTON - Amanda Joe Malkovich, 50, died at 12:50 p.m. Tuesday, July 13, 2010, in Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.

Ms. Malkovich was born March 23, 1960, in Benton, the daughter of Daniel Leon Malkovich and Joe Anne (Choisser) Malkovich.

Mandy was a 1978 graduate of Benton Consolidated High School, where she was a National Merit Scholar. She attended Bryn Mawr College in Bryn Mawr, Pa., and received a master's degree from University of Illinois Chicago. She was a nanny, schoolteacher, newspaper reporter, television production assistant and private investigator.

Mandy was of Catholic faith.

She was a founding member of the Hag Patch in Victor, Idaho. She loved gardening, knitting, quilting, cooking and reading.

Mandy had a profound impact on the lives of those she knew and loved. In her final months and with a 25-year battle with cancer coming to a close, she returned to Southern Illinois and the landscape she treasured.

Surviving relatives include two brothers, Daniel Malkovich and wife, Debbie, of Sesser, and John Malkovich and Nicole Peyran of Cambridge, Mass.; two sisters, Melissa Malkovich and Joe Starita of Seagrove Beach, Fla., and Rebecca Malkovich of Benton; nieces and nephews, Matthew Malkovich and wife, Brandi, of Orlando, Fla., Loewy and Amandine Malkovich of Cambridge, Mass., Jesse Starita of Lincoln, Neb., Jake and Eli Ivanovich of Benton, Tim Eubanks and wife, Kim, of Benton, T.J. Eubanks of Sesser and Bayley Eubanks of Benton; and honorary daughter, Zoe Perry of Los Angeles.

Ms. Malkovich was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 20, 2010, in Masonic and Odd Fellows Cemetery in Benton, with Father Joseph Trapp officiating.
