Andrew Houston Obituary
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, 2008, in Riggin-Pillatsch Funeral Home in Carterville, with the Minister Kip Adams officiating. Burial will be in Willowrest Cemetery in Carterville. Visitation will be at 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Carterville High School Athletic Fund or Poshard Foundation for Abused and Neglected Children. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Andrew was born June 21, 1982, to Scott and Judy (Smith) Houston.
He is survived by his parents, Scott and Judy Houston of Carterville; brother, Rob Houston of Carterville; sister and brother-in-law, Rebecca and Todd Green of Eagle River, Alaska; grandparents, David and Mary Smith of Carterville and Jimmy Houston of West Frankfort; aunts and uncles, Diane and Jeff Eaton of Romeoville, Brenda and Patrick Lillard of Carterville, Jim and Kim Smith of Carterville; six cousins, Jamie Qualls of Carterville, Jacob Smith of Carterville, Erin and Ryan Diel of Cameron, N.C., Kaitlin Lillard of Belleville, Michael and Margaret Eaton of Minot, N.D., and Clifford Eaton of Lisle.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Louie and Kay Rosenberger and cousin, Sgt. Benjamin Smith, USMC.
Andrew was an avid outdoorsman, who loved to go fishing. He also enjoyed playing sports, but most all, he loved to be around people and he never met a stranger.

My thoughts are with your family....I can't believe he's gone....Not sure what to say other than that anyone who had the priviledge of knowing him was lucky...including Tristan who is sad as well.... There are no words to express how sorry I am for your loss. There are so memories that have made me smile through my tears, like the day I had a flat tire and couldn't get the lug nuts off, and he came over and took them off while I was at work, watching him dance and play with my little cousin, or arguing with him while putting my shelves together.

Dear Scott & Judy:
There are no words to say that can ease your pain but seeing how much Andrew was loved must be a comfort.
Years and miles have come between our families, but seeing you all at dad's funeral in September seemed to erase all the time that had passed and wonderful memories of when we were young cousins having so much fun together came flooding back. Looking at the picture of Andrew is like looking at both of you 35 years ago. Reading these tributes show us just how much Andrew was like the two of you - outgoing, fun, a friend to everyone and loved by all who met him.
Although we are miles apart, know that we are grieving with you and praying for you constantly. We pray that you, Judy, Rob and Becca find strength in our Heavenly Father. We also pray for Becca as she awaits the birth of her baby and that God's infinite peace, grace and love will comfort you all now and always.

Andrew was such a proud young man. That smile won any heart! His respect and desire to serve his country was so strong even if his body limited his ability. I had the pleasure of knowing your son through high school sports and while he & I were both attending college. He was definitely the life of the party and his personality was larger than life. I can't think of one moment when I wasn't around Andrew, Rob and the rest of the guys, that I didn't have a smile on my face. Scott & Judy: I never know what to say when someone passes, especially to the parents who lose a child. When I learn of such a tragedy, my thoughts are immediately of what I would feel, or do, if one of my daughters had passed. That scenario has played-out in my mind a thousand times, with the conclusion always being that I would simply be devastated and lost. I'm certain that is how each of you feel, now. I know that there are no adequate answers as to why this would happen, or why it would happen to such a fine young man as Andrew. Unfortunately, no one on earth has that answer. All that I can say is that I have deep respect for both of you, and Dave, and I pray that each of you will find comfort and that you have faith that you will see and embrace Andrew, again. I met Andrew on several occasions, and I was truly impressed by his respectful attitude and good-natured demeanor. Andrew was always the "life of the party" and I will always remember his personality being larger than life. Jacob, Brez, Brian, Andrew, Krotch, Rob and I had many good times and created a lot of memories, while I was attending college at John A. Logan and Southern Illinois Univ. Andrew sat me down one evening and insisted that I watch "Pumping Iron" (documentary of Arnold Schwarzenegger's body building career) with him, and though I hated it at the time, it is now one of my most cherished memories.
