DE SOTO -- On Sunday, Dec. 13, 2020, Dana Simpson passed from this world at her rural De Soto home.
She died peacefully after a prolonged 14-year battle with COPD.
Dana was born Oct. 3, 1957, to Gilbert and Mary Ann Bolen in Holden Hospital in Carbondale.
Dana's love of nursing led her to JALC where she completed both her LPN and RN degrees. Dana was loved by both her patients and coworkers. She was a beautiful person both inside and out.
Dana loved traveling, cooking, bonfires and her dog, Coco.
As a natural teacher she taught both her husband and son how to cook along with many others.
If you came to her house hungry you were sure to leave with both a full stomach and heart.
She will be greatly missed by her husband, Brad; and their son, Jesse; as well as her extended family and friends.
A celebration of her life will be conducted on a date to be determined in Spring 2021.

I didn't know Dana well, but I knew how loved she was. Brad, watching you caring for her over the years on Facebook was such a joy. It was lovely to see all the delicious, creative meals you crafted to enjoy with her. I've enjoyed the pictures you shared of the two of you, always smiling. Dana had such a beautiful smile. I'm so sorry she's gone.

Some of my favorite childhood memories took place with Dana at the old farmhouse. Summer afternoons drinking tea and eating toast with honey, watching movies and eating popcorn, and painting our nails. There are songs that immediately take me back to her kitchen every time. She was truly special, one of a kind. Dana was honest, a free spirit, and seemed to radiate happiness like sunshine. I am so thankful to have known her. Many prayers for Brad and Jesse. Love you all.

Dana was the first person we met when looking for a property to buy on Creekside Lane in 2007. She confirmed that the cornfield we were looking at did have a pond, and that the Realtor sign was in the weeds. She laughed about how she swam in the pond in years past, or was it the next pond over?? Then she laughed again, so friendly and caring. We purchased that land, built a house, and enjoyed Dana and Brad as 2 of our best neighbors ever.
