George Workman Obituary

BENTON -- George Thomas Workman, 22, died at 6:35 a.m. Saturday, May 24, 2014, in Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Indiana, from complications of an auto accident.

Mr. Workman was born Feb. 11, 1992, in Mount Vernon, the son of Steven L. and Stacia A. (Henrick) Workman.

George was an amazing person and cherished by all who knew him. He had a passion for music and shared his enthusiasm and talent with the world around him. He was a gifted singer, songwriter, performer, actor, musician and friend to all. Always with a smile to share.

A student at Rend Lake College, George loved participating in the theatre and music programs. He was involved in so many activities in his community, including marching band, scholar bowl team, national honor society, speech team, jazz band, choir, thespians club and Southern Illinois Earth Science Club, just to name a few. He also was a guitar player and singer in a rock band.

He was a beloved member of First United Methodist Church of Benton.

Surviving relatives include his parents; two sisters, Virginia (Nathan West) Workman and Melissa Workman; maternal grandfather, Francis (Pat) Henrick; aunts and uncles, Janice Langford, Nelson Workman Jr., John (Denise) Workman and David (Stephanie) Henrick; and many cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Jeffery Workman; paternal grandparents, Joyce and Nelson Workman and Shirley (Kenneth) Wear; and uncle, Jeffrey Henrick.

Services to celebrate a joyful life well lived will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 28, in Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home and Crematory in Benton with the Rev. Shane Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Masonic-Odd Fellow Cemetery in Benton. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 27, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rend Lake College Music and Theatre Department and will be accepted at the funeral home.

In the words of George Workman himself, "I love you guys!"
