AVA - Glenn Albert McBride, 92, of Ava went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2025, at the VA Medical Center in Marion, surrounded by his loved ones.
He was born on Dec 3, 1932, to Albert and Lillian (Graff) McBride in Mount Vernon.
Glenn was a proud United States Army Veteran of the Korean War Era. As a young man, he traveled throughout the United States and Europe. He was a member of the VFW Post 7190 and the American Legion Post 127. He retired from Chester Mental Health Center, where he served as a security therapy aide II for more than 20 years. Glenn spent most of his life raising cattle, horses and farming. He enjoyed hunting and the outdoors.
At the age of 90, he accepted Christ in his heart as his Lord and Savior and became a born-again Christian.
Survivors include his wife, Shelby; four children, Brent McBride, Lisa McBride, Blaine (Christy) McBride and Courtney McBride (Angelo Hightower); three grandchildren, Lorenzo Hightower, Qwentin McBride and Ariana McBride.
Glenn loved his family and will be greatly missed.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his two sisters and brothers-in-law, Barbara Jean (Robert) Gandy and Mary Ann (Carl) Burkett.
Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 22, in Elm Street Baptist Church, with the Rev. Charles Allen officiating. Vsitation will be prior to the services from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will follow the services at Evergreen Cemetery in Ava, with full military honors by American Legion Post 127 and the Illinois Army National Guard.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of love may be directed to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, via their website and/or will be accepted at the services.
