PERRYVILLE, Mo. - Gregory Elwood Dunn (Greg), 70, of Perryville, passed away Thursday morning, Jan. 9, 2025, at his home in the country.
Greg was born on July 3, 1954, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to Elwood Wallace and Vangie Rose (Mathews) Dunn. He spent his childhood years in Marion with his parents, later moved to Makanda and most recently to Perryville, Missouri. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Greg and Karen Kay (Colvin) Dunn were married on June 19, 1999. The service was performed by a minister aside a rolling stream in the Rocky Mountain National Park in Estes Park, Colorado. Karen survives her husband and resides at their Perryville home.
In his early adult years, Greg enjoyed participating in automobile racing as well as being a certified instructor for other drivers. He also enjoyed snow and water skiing, bicycling, and participated in running marathons. As an automobile enthusiast, Greg enjoyed car shows of all types and was a member of several car clubs. His two favorite vehicles were his 1964 Chevrolet Corvette and his 2023 Ford Bronco.
As a homeowner of country acreage in both Illinois and Missouri, Greg enjoyed working the land. One of his favorite places to be was on the seat of his tractor. He and his wife, together, built a horse farm at both locations and enjoyed planting trees, bushes and flowers to attract wildlife. Greg mostly enjoyed bird watching with his wife from the comfort of their front porch. As a pet enthusiast, he is also survived by his beloved dogs, cats and horses.
Greg's career was significant in his dedication to automobile care in the service departments of several large automobile dealerships, most recently Vogler Ford in Carbondale, until his retirement in 2024. He shined when it came to customer assistance, care, courtesy and product knowledge. Greg was reflected upon as a friend by many of his customers, co-workers and employers.
In addition to having a great sense of humor, his best friend, Tim, quoted, "He (Greg) would do anything for anybody and not expect anything in return." Greg was loved by many and will be missed by all.
