Kandis Majors Obituary
Kandis was born Sept. 16, 1981, in Mount Carmel, to Robert Majors and Cindy (Travis) Marlow.
Kandis was a 1999 graduate of Johnston City High School. While in high school, she was very involved with her community, participating in cheerleading, pompons, baton twirling and scholar bowl. She also enjoyed participating in area beauty pageants. She graduated from John A. Logan College in 2003 where she received a degree in cosmetology. While attending John A. Logan, she was a cheerleader for the Vols. Kandis was currently attending Rend Lake College where she was enrolled in the X-ray technician program.
Kandis is survived by her son, Caleb Holtzclaw, of Johnston City; mother and step-father, Cindy and Greg Marlow of Johnston City; father, Robert Majors of Mount Carmel; sister, Courtney Marlow of Johnston City; three half brothers, Jason, Joe and Tanner Majors; paternal grandparents, Homer and D'Ella Majors of Mount Carmel; maternal stepgrandparents, Louis and Shelia Marlow of Herrin; and several aunts, uncles and cous-ins.
She is preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Wally and Marty Travis.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today in Pyle Funeral Home in Johnston City, with the Rev. Michael Neubert officiating. Interment will follow in East Lawn Memorial Gardens in Energy. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to The Learning Center in Carterville. Memorial envelopes are available at the funeral home.

I remember Kandis very well from junior high. She and I were part of a small cast for a (rather silly) musical--I think it was called "Teen"--we performed with the choir. She was the lead and I played one of her sidekicks along with Jessie Hurley. Kandis always struck me as very fun, confident, and outgoing, and she also had a lovely singing voice. To Kandis' family and friends--I wish you comfort during this trying time. Please know that I care.

Our deepest sympathy goes out to the family of Kandis. Josh remembered a Sherertz family reunion that we had when he was young and remembered that Kandis was there. When I read the obituary I realized that she is a member of our family through Greg. Again, our deepest sympathy and our prayers are with.

My heart goes out to her family. If her mother is reading this I was a friend of Kandis from Crainville Grade School. We also rode the school bus together and always sat together. I always remember both of you as so sweet and so funny. Kandis is the reason I discovered Guns N Roses. I wish we hadn't lost touch over the years and am so sad to hear of her wonderful life being cut so short. My prayers are with you.

I was so upset to hear of this awful thing. I drove Kandis on the bus for several years. I always liked her because she reminded me of myself. I lost track of her when she stopped riding the bus, but never forgot her. May God be with you and your family at this most difficult time, know there are many people praying for you at this time. Rest in Peace Kandis.
