MARION - Dr. Paul R. Boyt, 78, of Marion, passed away at 9:21 a.m. Monday, Oct. 13, 2025, in the Deaconess Regional Medical Center of Marion.
He answered the call of this nation by serving in the United States Army Reserves from 1981 until 1993 earning the rank of major.
He was an optometrist who served in many different roles in the field of study and service for over 50 years.
He was a member of Aldersgate Global Methodist Church of Marion.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Beverly Boyt of Marion; son, Benjamin Paul Boyt of Marion; daughter, Mary Boyt of Marion; and several cousins and family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Amos L. and Ruth J. (Watkins) Boyt.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, 900 N. Court St., Marion, IL.
Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, at the funeral home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. with Gabe Wanck presiding. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery in Marion.
For those who prefer, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to one or more of the following: Marion Aldersgate Church, Connect 360, or Shriner's Hospital for Children. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home, or memorials may be mailed c/o Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, 900 N. Court St., Marion, IL 62959.
