Ray Treece Obituary

ANNA -- Ray William Treece, 93, formerly of Carbondale, died at 2:01 p.m. Sunday, March 4, 2012, in Illinois Veterans Home in Anna.

He was born Dec. 24, 1918, in Anna, the son of Roy and Helen Westbrooks Treece. He married Margaret Ann Treece in February 1948 in Cobden. She preceded him in death May 26, 2011.

Ray is survived by his two daughters, Lynn A. (Benson D.) Poirier of Makanda and Janet Lea (Henry B.) Nennstiel of Metropolis; two grandchildren, Benson T. (Christina) Poirier of Anna and Erin T. Poirier of Makanda; three great-grandchildren, Gunnar, Margaret and Benson; other relatives; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Margaret Ann Treece.

Ray proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy in Guam during World War II, and later was a Navy Seabees.

He retired from Illinois Central Railroad after nearly 40 years. He was a member of Carroll P. Foster Post 3455 of the VFW in Anna, Cobden American Legion Post 259 and Cobden Masonic Lodge 466.

The family would like to thank the Illinois Veterans Home in Anna for the special care and "family type" treatment Ray received.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 7, 2012, in Casper Cemetery in Anna, with Father Federico Higuera officiating. Military honors will be conducted at the graveside by Carroll P. Foster Post 3455 and the Funeral Honors Team of Marion. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today, Tuesday, March 6, 2012, at Rendleman and Hileman Funeral Home in Anna. Masonic rites by Cobden Masonic Lodge 466 will be at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Casper Cemetery. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and cemetery.

Did not know Ray, but shared an experience at different times (Navy Seabees), lived in the same county, and a last name. Thankful for his service during trying times. Wanted to acknowledge him and his memory.
