Ruby Hagston Obituary

DU QUOIN - Ruby Hagston, 89, left this earthly life at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, 2007, in Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin.

Ruby had been a homemaker.

She was a member of Nine Mile Baptist Church for over 40 years and taught Ladies Sunday School Bible Class. Ruby was very talented and wrote religious poems and songs, which were enjoyed by many. She will be remembered as a great cook, having all the family get-togethers at her house.

She had worked at Du Quoin's famous Southern BBQ, Dairy Queen, P.R. Mallory, and the Du Quoin Evening Call. She was also a election judge. After retirement, she drove the Snow Cone truck, making her grandkids happy.

She was a lifelong resident of Du Quoin. She will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her.

She was born Jan. 7, 1918, in Du Quoin, the daughter of Louis and Myrtle (Jackson) Ross.

She married Raymond Herbert Hagston on May 6, 1933, in Du Quoin, and he preceded her in death Jan. 10, 1989. To this union was born six children.

She is survived by six children, Jean Kash of Du Quoin, Nancy Baltzell and husband, Jesse, of Du Quoin, Judy Martie and husband, Charles, of Dowell, Lyle Hagston and wife, Sharon, of Tamaroa, Raymond Hagston of Du Quoin and Marsha Polley and husband, Danny, of Vero Beach, Fla.; 17 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Robert Ross and Louis Ross; one sister, Lucille Terry; one son-in-law, Dean Kash; one granddaughter; and one great-granddaughter.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 28, 2007, in Nine Mile Baptist Church in Tamaroa, with the Rev. Kevin Carrothers officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park in Du Quoin. Friends may call from 5 until 8 p.m. Friday, April 27, 2007, at Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin and from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 28, 2007, at the church.
