Theodore Sminchak Obituary

WEST FRANKFORT -- Theodore "Ted" Sminchak, 85, died at 1:23 p.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2011, in Westside Care Center in West Frankfort.

He was born March 4, 1926, in Herrin to Mike and Barbara Masky Sminchak.

Mr. Sminchak married Velma Mary (Drew) and she preceded him in death March 21, 2006.

He attended Freeman Chapel in Freeman Spur.

Mr. Sminchak was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Surviving relatives are his son, Dennis (Donna) Sminchak of West Frankfort; daughters, Lola (Fred) Isaacs of Thompsonville; Amy (Tim) Serena of West Frankfort, Peggy (Ed) Gardner of West Frankfort; brother, Roy (Norma) Sminchak of Collinsville; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Velma Mary Sminchak; parents; granddaughter, Lisa Ann; great-grandchildren, Zayne Serena and Madyson Darnell; sister, Lucille Barnard and brothers, Mike, Sylvester and Elmer Sminchak.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 9, in Union Funeral Home in West Frankfort with the Revs. Bob McKnight and Clyde Dillman. Burial will be in Denning Cemetery in West Frankfort. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, July 9, at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Madyson Darnell Scholarship Fund. Envelopes will be available and accepted at the funeral home or SI Bank in West Frankfort.

Grandpa will be greatly missed. We spent many nights out fishing.
