Travis Webb Obituary

TUNNEL HILL -- Travis Webb, 88, went to be with the Lord at 3:12 a.m. Monday, Nov. 22, 2010. Surrounded by a son, a daughter and a granddaughter, he passed away at his Tunnel Hill home.

Travis was born Jan. 24, 1922, in Creal Springs, the 14th child of Travis and Mina (Dillow) Webb. On Nov. 15, 1940, he married Pauline Johnson in Charleston, Mo., and she preceded him in death June 27, 1996.

Survivors include two sons, David and Barbara Webb of Creal Springs and Ronnie and Dana Webb of Tunnel Hill; two daughters, Debbie and Bobby Horn of Tunnel Hill and Sandy and David King of Makanda; five granddaughters, Paula Webb, Kellie and Rod Troxel, Trina and Dale King, Tara Horn and Tami Horn; one grandson, Kevin Webb; four great-granddaughters, Brittany Perry, Rachel Webb, Hannah Dawes and Dasia King; two great-grandsons, Kyle Perry and Dylan King; four stepgrandchildren, Alan King, Michelle Templeton, Aaron McDonald and Kassey McDonald; six great-stepgrandchildren, Jordan and Kasandra King, Hope and Cody Templeton, Hayden Lukancic and Brittany Kasperzick; and two sisters-in-law, June Wikoff and Lois Webb.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; five brothers, Dolph, Elmer and Tom Webb and (in infancy) Robert and Otis; eight sisters, Winnie Cavitt, Velma Wright, Freda Lewis, Sarah Meyer, twins Cora Taylor and Ora Webb, Hester Morrissette and Mildred Tondini.

Travis served in the U.S. Army Air Force in World War II from 1944-46. He was a member of Laborers' International Union of North America, Creal Springs VFW Post 9763 and Disabled American Veterans.

He worked at many jobs through the years. He was a construction laborer, school bus driver, fruit picker, factory worker, Illinois Highway Department maintenance worker, race horse owner and farmer.

Travis was a member of First Baptist Church of Creal Springs. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, farm animals, horse racing, watching Westerns, travelling, attending his grandchildren's sports activities and eating meals at Whistler & Whittler in West Vienna.

He was a people person and never met a stranger.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2010, in Cosby-Sloan Funeral Home in Creal Springs, with Brother Alan Summers officiating. Burial with military services by Marion American Legion, VFW and Honor Guard will be in Webb Cemetery in Tunnel Hill. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
