William Deaton Obituary

MARION - William E. "Bill" Deaton, 82, passed away at 4:20 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010, in Friendship Care Center in Herrin.

Bill was born July 19, 1927, in Marion, the son of Omer and Virdus (Ivy) Deaton.

He married Paralee Whitecotton on June 16, 1946, in Piggott, Ark., and together they shared more than 63 years of marriage.

He retired from Peabody Coal Company. Bill was a member of Second Baptist Church, UMWA and a lifetime member of Marion Masonic Lodge.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, William Deaton and wife, Helen, of Marion, David Deaton and wife, Toni, of Marion; two daughters, Carol Romans and husband, Steve, of Marion, and Janet Stilley and husband, Jack, of Marion; seven grandchildren, Randy Stilley and wife, Kim, of Marion, Tara Furlong and husband, Kenny, of Marion, Michael Chamness of Marion, Jason Stilley and wife, Leann, of Paducah, Christy Norman and husband, Donny, of Marion, Tyson Deaton of Marion, and Ryan Deaton and wife, Tera, of Marion; and 19 great and great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; great-granddaughter, Lindsey Nicole Furlong; two brothers, James Deaton and Rudolph "Doc" Deaton; and an infant sister, Lorene Deaton.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010, in Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion, with Dr. Bob Wagner officiating. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

The family would like to express their thanks to the staff of the Friendship Care Center in Herrin for the loving care and special kindness that Bill and his entire family received.

Memorials may be made to the Haiti Relief Fund. Envelopes will be available and accepted at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home, 800 N. Market St., Marion, IL 62959.
