Hurricane
Bruce Edson Porter, 62, of Hurricane, UT, slipped peacefully from this life on October 17, 2014. He was born at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, TX to Edson and Veda Jensen Porter on October 30, 1951. Bruce grew up in Tooele, UT and spent his senior year of high school in Minnesota, where he graduated from Burnsville High. He was a high-school tennis champion and now has grandsons following in his footsteps. He was also a rock band drummer, talented artist, sprint-car racer, and an avid NASCAR fan. After attending BYU for a time, Bruce's passion for cars led him into a lifelong career as a gifted mechanic.
Bruce was father to seven children from two marriages. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved hunting with his boys, coaching youth sports, taking car rides, watching M*A*S*H and John Wayne re-runs. He lived in Bullhead City, AZ for 11 years before moving back home to Hurricane, UT. He will be remembered for his keen sense of humor, work ethic, quiet generosity…and DIET COKE! He was beloved and admired by his siblings, nieces and nephews.
Bruce is survived by his wife of 24 years, Cresta Anderson Porter; children: Tiffini Porter of Salt Lake City, UT, Angela (Steve) Van Vleet of Gardner,KS, David (Melissa) Porter, of Huntersville, NC, Jessley Porter (Jerry Schweiss) of Grantsville, UT, Bradon Porter of Hurricane, UT, Kaitlin Porter, currently serving in the Lousville, KY mission and Sarah Porter of Hurricane, UT; as well as nine grandchildren, with a tenth on the way. He is also survived by his mother, Veda; siblings: Gregory (Wendella), Sharon (Marco), and Jeffrey (Marceen); and his first wife, Kristine Lee Quarnberg. He was preceded in death by his father, Edson; his brother, Dale; and his niece, Jessica.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Dr. Mel and Dr. Phil Carter for the loving care they gave Bruce over the years.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 24, 2014 at the Hurricane LDS West Stake Center, 272 South 700 West, Hurricane, Utah. A visitation will be held Thursday, October 23, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Metcalf Hurricane Valley Mortuary, 140 North Main Street, Hurricane, Utah and prior to services on Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Stake Center.
