Craig Goodwin Obituary

Craig Gordon Goodwin

Cedar City, Utah - Craig Gordon Goodwin passed away peacefully on Monday, March 26, 2018 surrounded by family after a short and courageous battle with liver cancer.

Gordon was born on June 7, 1951 in Cedar City, UT to Robert E & Irene Gentry Goodwin. He was the 3rd of 8 children and learned at a young age the ropes of how to tease and pull pranks from his older brother Robert & sister Dianne. He had a love for all of his siblings and expressed that love often. He met the love of his life Doris Rosenberg in the 3rd grade. That love continued to grow in his heart until they started dating after high school. Gordon & Doris were married on October 8, 1971 and later solemnized in the St George Temple. They were blessed with three sons, Brandon, Justin & Aaron.

During his younger years he was quite the athlete playing in the little league all-stars. He continued his love for sports and was an avid fan of BYU especially football where he and Doris enjoyed their season tickets for 22 years. They traveled to many BYU bowl games going as far as Tennessee. He also loved attending SUU basketball games and gymnastic meets.

After graduating from Cedar High School in 1969, he attended the Granite Computer Institute in Phoenix AZ. Upon returning to Cedar City, he began working for Mountain Bell where he remained employed for 47 years and retiring in the spring of 2017 under the new name of Century Link. Gordon was a wonderful provider to his family maintaining a beautiful home & yard. It wasn't uncommon to find him working in his own picturesque landscape. He loved entertaining family & friends with a barbecue and baking at his home.

He was a man of all trades and was not intimidated by anything that needed to be fixed. He recently finished painting the upstairs rooms of his home despite his failing body. He kept his mind sharp by doing crossword puzzles, sudoku, jumble, & crypto quote.

Gordon had a love for the outdoors and spending time with his family at his beloved Panguitch Lake camping & fly fishing. They also enjoyed hunting, gathering firewood and finding pinenuts. Many happy memories were made in the mountains and on a lake.

Besides fishing, Gordon loved to golf with his brother & brother-in-laws. Even when on vacation in Hawaii, he could be found golfing when others were enjoying the sites. Laughlin Nevada was his and Doris's happy place of the past 10 years with her sister Karen & husband Brandt. Again you could find Gordon on the golf course with Brandt while the women shopped. Traveling was a big part of Gordon & Doris's life going on 3 extended family cruises and visiting many of the Eastern states.

Grandpa was one of his most treasured titles. He will be known as the candy man always having an abundance of treats on hand. He loved supporting his grandkids in all their activities and having them come and visit. His love for teasing carried on to each one of them in a fun and loving way.

Gordon was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He had a love for his Savior which was evident by the way he treated others with kindness and love. His quiet, gentle demeanor will forever be remembered.

Gordon had many friends and loved each one of them individually. He enjoyed the many visits from them all the past several months. His dry sense of humor never faltered or disappointed (others). You wouldn't even realize he was joking until he laughed first. He had a famous skip that would make anyone laugh. He loved his time with his buddies at Denney's and his Friday morning breakfasts with his brothers Ed & Robert. His sisters adored him and his unlimited compliments and love. You were always welcome at the home of Gordon & Doris Goodwin.

Gordon is survived by his wife Doris, son Justin & Aaron all of Cedar City. Grandchildren: Quade, KayCee, Zachary, Whitney, Robbie, Brian, Maddie, Sckyler Great granddaughter Kinzlee and one on the way. Brothers & sisters Dianne Bryant (Garth), Robert (Marsha), Jill Smith, Ed (Shelly), Betsy Woolsey (Scott), Michelle Gates (Jon). Brothers and sister-in-law's Terry Rosenberg (Vicki), Randy Rosenberg (LaRue), Lynne Piper (Dave) and Karen Nelson (Brandt).

Preceded in death by his son Brandon, brother Kelly, his parents Robert and Irene Goodwin, his father and mother -in-law Humbert and Marion Rosenberg and brother-in-law Leigh Rosenberg.

The family wishes to thank all the many caregivers, family & close friends who reached out with telephone calls and visits.

Dear Doris and Family,
You picked the perfect photo of Gordon to put online. This is the Gordon I want to remember, with a little smile as he's thinking of fun things to do, always ready with a welcoming word, and just generally showing love and kindness toward everyone. Once I got back to Salt Lake last Thursday, I wasn't able to get away to get back to Cedar for the funeral, but hopefully there was a video or a CD recording made that can be watched or listened to later on by those of us who were unable to come to the gathering to honor Gordon. I know that with all of the difficult things that have already come your way, Doris, you will be okay as you go forth without Gordon at your side, but I do believe, once the grieving subsides a bit, you'll feel his spirit close by, keeping you company, helping you make decisions, watching over you and your children and grandchildren. The obituary you and your family wrote was perfect, and told us things about Gordon and his fun loving personality that we didn't know before. Let me know if there is anything at all I can do for you or your family as you get used to Gordon's passing; I'm at your service.
Love,
Kathy (Topham) Sullivan
