David Bonzo Obituary

David Keith Bonzo

Cedar City

David Keith Bonzo, age 88, passed away on August 13, 2013 at his home. He was born on April 19, 1925 in Greenville, Utah to Egbert and Eliza Reese Bonzo. He married Ione Davis on November 16, 1952 in Pioche, NV.

David was a lifelong resident of Cedar City, Utah. He was a graduate of Cedar City High School. At age 18, David was drafted into the U. S. Army 101st Airborne Division at the beginning of WWII. He was involved in the D Day Invasion as a paratrooper and jumped on Omaha Beach. He served four years in many of the major campaigns of WWII. After returning home David joined the Utah National Guard 213th Field Artillery Battalion. With this Battalion he served for two years in the Korean Conflict where he was in the Battle of Kapyeong.

After returning home, David and Ione raised five boys. David was employed for nearly 30 years as a shovel operator at the Comstock Iron Mines. After he retired, David worked for nearly 20 years for Ken Bettridge and made many friends at KB Express.

David knew the value of hard work and taught each of his boys the same. He loved hunting and fishing and was the founder of "The Bonzo Deer Camp". David was an avid Utah Jazz fan. One of his favorite pastimes was sitting on the front porch visiting with friends, family and spending time with his grandchildren, who were his pride and joy.

David is survived by his wife Ione, sons: Rick (Wendy) of Enoch, UT, Eric (Lisa) of Enoch, UT, Todd (Lorie) of St. George, UT and Scott of Panguitch, UT, 13 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, siblings: Kenneth, Max and Douglas all of Cedar City and Pat Close of Las Vegas, NV. He was preceded in death by his son David Paul Bonzo, brothers: Howard, John and T.R. "Bob" and sister Alene.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 19, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cedar City LDS 4th Ward Chapel, 500 West 400 North, Cedar City. Visitations will be held on Sunday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Monday, prior to services, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. both at the Chapel.
