George Amidan Obituary

George Ray "Bud" Amidan

St. George

Age 89, Bud was a husband, father and grandfather who passed away peacefully on February 8th 2015, surrounded by his family. There, waiting to take his hand, was his sweetheart of 69 years, who he had missed so much since she left 3 years ago. "Perfect timing Grandpa, just before Valentine's Day. Now go take Grandma's hand and dance the night away." (Quote from Ray's granddaughter, Cali). He was born May 27, 1925 in Slaterville Utah to George and Edna Ekins Amidan. He attended Weber County Schools, and then he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, 1942-1946 on the USS Wasp and USS Princeton as an Aviation Machinist's Mate. When he returned home, he met Marion Hart at a dance at the White City Ballroom. They married May 27, 1946. Ray owned Amidan Ready Mix. He retired from Hill Air Force base after 38 years as a Quality Control Inspector, but he always had a second job, to make sure that his family could have a cabin at Bear Lake and all the extras in life. He raised his family In Ogden Utah until 1984 when he retired to St. George Utah, where he loved to golf and go dancing with his wife. He was a member of the Elks for 32 years, and a member of the LDS church. He was a handsome, kindhearted, patient father and always told his children "Do the best you can with what you've got". He loved his grandchildren so much and always spent hours walking with the babies. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, the love of his life Marion, three brothers, Walter, Don, and Lewis, two sisters, Pauline and Edith, and a son, Don. He is survived by his children, Bruce (Chris) Amidan, Greg Amidan, Nanette (Brett) Reeves, 17 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, two great, great grandchildren, two sisters Helen and Charell and his cat Pretty Boy. The family would like to thank Dr. Carl Hallenborg for always treating Dad like family, with caring love and respect. Stan and Teresa Seegmiller, for the many years of special friendship, "Dad's church people". A short service will be held Saturday February 14th at Heideman Hughes Mortuary at 1:00 P.M. at 1037 E. 700 S. St. George, UT. The family has requested to wear orange and blue for his favorite NFL team, the Denver Broncos, or cheerful colors. Interment will follow at the Ivins City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, an account has been set up under "Marion Amidan Memorial Reading Fund" at State Bank of Southern Utah to continue supporting his wife's reading program. Arrangements made under the direction of Heideman Hughes Mortuary (435) 674-5000.
