Jeane Jepson Obituary

On October 9, 2015, our beloved wife, mother, grandma, sister, aunt and friend departed from our presence after a brave battle with leukemia at her home in Richfield. Jeane Frances Jacobsen Jepson was born on November 25, 1940 in Seattle, Washington, to Hank and Jeanetta Jacobsen, who fondly named her Jeane, their third "J" daughter. We take comfort in knowing that she is reunited with family and friends who have gone before her.

Jeane's early years could be titled "the resort years." Her father ran a salmon fishing resort in the summer and was President of Alpine Skiing Club in the winter. So she literally lived on the water in a boathouse during the summer and spent her winters at the ski resort. She was only three years old when she first put on skis and hit the slopes.

At age 12, she was the benefactor of Mormon member missionary work. Her wonderful neighbors introduced her to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and she was baptized and remained an active member throughout her life. As a teenager, she worked at Frederick Nelsons, but her favorite job was when she worked at the Seattle Space Needle during the World's Fair in 1962. She had the opportunity to meet many famous people, including Elvis Presley.

Jeane graduated from Queen Ann High in Seattle and continued her education at BYU and BYU-Hawaii, obtaining a bachelor's degree in sociology; however, her employment didn't begin in social services, but rather with NorthWest Orient Airlines in Washington D.C. After a little over a year in DC, she moved to Phoenix, Arizona, and worked for TWA. She transferred from Phoenix to San Francisco with the airlines and it was there that she fell in love with and married her gospel doctrine teacher, a young man in the military named Robert Kelly Jepson.

Bob and Jeane were married in April 1969 in the St. George LDS Temple. They moved to Richfield in 1973 where Jeane became very involved in the community. She gave countless years of service. She was president of the Jr. Culture Club, served on the Independence Day committee, as the Miss Richfield director, on the city beautification committee and in numerous callings in the LDS church.

Jeane was very artistic--she loved to paint, water color and arrange flowers. She ran a floral design business out of her home called "Pine Cone Creations and Florals." She also held an annual boutique where she sold some of her beautiful items. She loved singing and music. She always had music playing in the house and in her car. She loved the water and visited the ocean any chance she had. She loved to travel and visited faraway places including Europe, Israel, Japan and China. She loved to read and devoured newspapers, books and magazines--underlining and clipping favorite thoughts. She loved being with her close friends--shopping, playing cards and laughing. But she was also a friend to everyone she met. She always had a kind word for everyone she associated with. But with all this, her greatest love and joy was her family. She loved her husband, three children, and nine grandchildren. Her capacity to love and care for them was exemplary! She never forgot a birthday or missed attending a special occasion and always found ways to build each family member up.

Her influence and spirit touched thousands of lives. She will be missed by all.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Kelly Jepson, Richfield; her daughters: Jennifer Louise (Robb) Franks, Springville, UT; and Amy Jo (Dustin) Thompson, Naperville, IL; and her son, Justin Kelly (Jamie) Jepson, Richfield, UT; 9 grandchildren (and one due in November); sisters: Joan Mann and Judy Paget; adopted brothers: Carl Jr., Don & Bruce Jacobsen. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Hughes and Jeanetta Maurine Baker Jacobsen; and her brother, Henry Hughes Jacobsen, Jr. "Jay".

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 17, 2015 at 12 Noon in the Richfield East Stake Center, 800 N. 500 E. Friends may call at the Magleby Mortuary in Richfield on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and at the stake center on Saturday from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Richfield City Cemetery. I know I speak for everyone at the Huntsman Cancer Center, especially the Infusion Clinic staff. We will miss Jeane very much. She was always positive and had a beautiful light. She had set backs, but came back many times. Bob was there every time and was a great support to her.

Her light will be with all of us now.
