Stephen Smith Obituary

Stephen Joseph Smith

St. George

Stephen Joseph Smith, 59, passed over on August 11, 2013 in the presence of his loving family. He was born on March 7, 1954 in Tacoma, Washington. He and his Goddess, Sandi, were married on September 6th, 1975 and enjoyed an intense love affair lasting 37 years. Their life together was one of adventure. They lived throughout the US, Iran, Australia, and most places in between. Together they raised four beautiful children and incessantly spoiled seven grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Sandi; children Stephanie, Aaron, Robert, Susie; their spouses Neal, Jodi, Brooke, and Alex; siblings Sharon, Rick, Beth, Kathy, and David; mother and father Shirley and Frank; and friends too innumerable to list.

Steve was such an inspiring and intrepid man. He touched the hearts of anyone he met. He had four children, but many more considered him their father. The world is a better place because he was with us and touched the hearts of so many. Those of us left on earth can be thankful for knowing him and find comfort knowing he rests peacefully among the stars with his infant son Casey.

Memorial Services will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m at Pine View mortuary 566 North Mall Drive St. George, Utah under the direction of Pine View Mortuary, 435 - 986 - 4222.

What a wonderful father and husband. Steve and Sandi Smith welcomed my son Alex into their family years ago when Alex first started dating Susie. Steve treated and cared for Alex as if he was his own son. This meant a lot to Alex, and it meant a lot to me knowing my son was in good hands. His kindness will never be forgotten. I am truly blessed and privileged to have known Steve. GOD Speed!

I remember working for Steve for so many years the way he made us laugh and want to excel at everything we did. I remember going to his 50th birthday party as his home in Texas with my kids and enjoying it so much! Steve, you made the world a better place - you are missed but never forgotten...

I enjoyed working for him and had done so for a lot of years. Even when I would leave the nest, it would not take long before I was back home working for Steve. Just a very nice man. He'll be missed

I worked with Steve on numerous occasions over the past 25 years. I always appreciated his candor and honesty. He was a great leader who wasn't afraid to roll up his sleeves to get work done yet have fun and share some laughs in the process. Steve was truly one of the good guys who will be sorely missed.

What a great loss to so many especially his family! Steve touched my heart and always excepted me like I was just one of the "crew"! He holds a special place in my heart just as you all do. So very sorry for the loss of an "angel on earth" and now in God's hands!

Steve was a great boss, co-worker and friend. At work, he had high expectations because he wanted everyone to do their best. He also wanted work and life to be fun and did all he could to make it that way. Steve truly cared about those around him. It was a privilege and a gift to know him. His star will continue to shine in our memories.

Steve, I will treasure our neighborhood camping trips and the stories around the camp fires. It is comforting to know that you will be keeping a watchful eye on your beautiful family, for you will truly be, a angel for those left behind. Sandi, Stephanie Aaron, Bobby, and Susie, my heart aches for you all. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Where to even begin words just seem inadequate. From the first time I met you at EDS it was like we had always been friends. Over the years that proved true all the camping trips and being a papa to my girls it is all great memories that will have to suffice until we meet again. To one of the greatest men I have had the honor of knowing. We all love and miss you! The Dietlin family.

I frequently think about our trip to Mahwah, NJ, where Steve was playing, while driving in the snow-covered parking lot with 4 of us in the rental car. He attempted, successfully, to pull doughnuts. Of course to get the front-wheel drive car to do the 360 degree spin, he had to drive in reverse.

I had the pleasure to work with Steve at EDS' data center in Richardson, Texas in 1982. Saw the joy on his face when his oldest son was born and worked with his other son Robert.... We have crossed paths over the years and our conversations always go back to those wonderful days in the early 80s where we were trail blazers and loving every moment of it.

I worked for Steve during my time at EDS and I found him to be an amazing leader. He was very knowledgeable about business and he was a very caring manager who took the time to know his entire team. I respected him and feel so lucky to have worked with him. I know he loved and valued his family.
