Timothy Parkinson Obituary

Timothy Allen Parkinson

Rockville

There's a new musician in heaven today, Tim is now happily drumming away on a handmade instrument and is free of the pain of cancer. Tim was surrounded by his family and loved ones as he bravely drew his final breaths November 14, 2016.

Tim was born to Ken and Dona Parkinson in St. George, UT July 24, 1954. He attended Dixie High school where he was known as the drummer for the Jetettes. He could also be found causing mayhem and havoc with his best friend Hank. Tim married the love of his life Vicki and the two raised their family in Rockville, UT. Tim worked in Zion National Park for over 20 years where he employed his vast array of skills to beautify and preserve the place he loved. Dad could often be found in his shop listening to music by Pentangle and other artists of his era, tinkering with his tools, creating something beautiful, and serving those around him. A bigger heart couldn't be found - his love for those around him was shown through acts of service, kind words, and generous offerings of his time and resources.

As a father, he taught his children music, kindness, respect and love. He often talked with them for hours, either in person, or on the phone about a variety of philosophical and moral topics long into the night. He drew beliefs about life from the artists he loved, including Pentangle, Moody Blues, and Joni Mitchell. He also loved discussing literature including Christian scripture, ancient Indian texts, Tolkien and others. In the words of Tim McGraw, Dad wanted us all to remember to be "Humble and Kind".

Tim is survived by his loving wife Vicki; children Shannon (Cutter) Cornforth, Tanya (Brandon) Sproul, and Kayce (Charissa) Parkinson; siblings Dona Lu (Jeff) ONeil, Kirk (Gwen) Parkinson, and Sara Kutz; and his grandchildren Kyler, Remington, Kamden, Aaliyah, Eleanor, and a baby boy yet to be named.

Tim is preceded in death by his parents, and his brother in law Dan Kutz.

Visitation will take place Friday, Nov 18, from 6-8pm at Spilsbury Mortuary 110 South Bluff Street, St. ST GEORGE, UT

Services will take place at the Springdale Ward, 1584 Zion Park Boulevard, SPRINGDALE, UT with a visitation starting at 12:30-1:30 and funeral beginning at 2pm. Graveside service at the Rockville Cemetery will follow.

Vicki, Though we didn't know each other well we were neighbors for many years (we were at the Dream Catcher Inn), you may remember our daughter Lynsee growing up/friends w/Tanya. I'm so sorry to read of your loss, it's a very difficult time. It's been 3- years since my husband passed and the best advice I can offer is stay busy, spend lots of time w/your children and grandchildren... But remember to spend time doing things that will 'heal' YOU-service of others, long walks... Stay mobile, that will keep you from being depressed. One of the best things I did was to join a a grievance group.... Being with others who REALLY understand HOW you're feeling and they're going through it now also, helps more than you'll believe. I went through Applegate Hospice, but I'm sure your hospice offers one also. I'm sorry for your children's/grandchildren's loss also, it's very very difficult on them; Lynsee still struggles with losing her dad, they were very close. I understand Lynsee and Tanya are connected on Fb, and I'm sure Lyns would be willing to talk with Tanya anytime; maybe they could help each other. I'm no longer in the area or I'd be right there by your side.... This is a really difficult time and there will be days that you'll feel like YOU'RE not going to live through and DON'T WANT to live through, but you will. My love and prayers are with you Vicki and your family...I will talk to you soon. ~Dawna
