Ronnie Carey Obituary

Ronnie Martin Carey, age 70, of Junction City, KY formerly of Springfield, passed away Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at his home with his two beloved dogs, Ollie and Patches by his side.

He was born on May 6, 1953 in Lebanon, KY to the late Howard Lee and Catherine Farmer Carey.

He was of the Catholic faith, a 1971 graduate of Washington County High School, a graduate of St. Catharine College and attended Western Kentucky University.

Ronnie spent his working years running an auto body repair shop and wrecker service alongside his father. He also gave over nineteen years of dedicated service as a volunteer firefighter with the Springfield Fire Department, including five years as Fire Chief.

One of his greatest joys in life was restoring and sharing his antique military Jeeps with others. While never able to serve in the military himself, he had a great admiration for those who had, including his son and sons-in-law. Ronnie proudly honored service members and veterans at every opportunity by including his Jeep in parades, static displays and car shows.

Though he had few earthly possessions, he would selflessly help anyone in need. He loved the Lord with all of his heart and loved being Pappy to his seven grandchildren. He lived confident knowing that he one day would be, and is now, safe at home in heaven.

Preceding him in death was an infant sister, Barbara Joyce Carey on December 23, 1942.

Survivors include a son, Michael Carey (Sarah) of Bowling Green; two daughters, Melissa Chesterfield (Martty) of Shelbyville and Lindsay Cunningham (Ryan) of Knoxville; seven grandchildren, Ethan Hutchins, Molli Hutchins, Hallie Carey, Ansley Carey, Lincoln Carey, Adeline Cunningham and Baker Cunningham; a brother, Howard E. Carey (Sandra) of Springfield and three sisters, Lela Proctor of Muncie, IN, Betsy Wilson of Danville and Theresa Coppock (Maurice) of Campbellsville.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 15th at the St. Rose Catholic Church with Rev. Kevin McGrath, officiating.

Burial was in the St. Augustine Cemetery in Lebanon.

Serving as pallbearers were Ethan Hutchins, Truman Taylor, Isaac Taylor, Kevin Carey, Reed Breunig and Forrest Carrico

Carey & Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
