Stephen Hale Obituary

Stephen D. Hale soared to Heaven in the early hours of June 20, 2018, at the age of 66.
He was born on March 17, 1952, to the late William Everett and Martha Walker Hale.
He was a member of St Dominic Catholic Church where he was a cantor, sang in the choir and played the guitar for Spanish Mass.
He dedicated his life to serving others. He led Sunday school at Medco Nursing home for over 30 years. He was known as the "Mission Man" to many homeless shelters in Louisville. He helped start the Fuller Center for housing in Springfield Louisville. He served his community by being a Boy Scoutmaster for numerous years helping his four sons earn the highest rank of Eagle Scout. He served on numerous boards and committees in the community. He was named the Springfield-Washington County Citizen of the Year in 2010.
He was proud to be a third generation businessman from Springfield and Washington County. He and his wife Mary Ann started Sell With Hale Realty & Auction, LLC in 1980. His six children joined him in the business over the years and he delighted in working with them. He loved working with the people of Washington County and told everyone he met about our community.
He believed that you should learn something new each day. He continued lifelong learning by earning a bachelor's degree in psychology in 2012 and a master's degree in leadership in 2014 from his beloved St. Catharine College.
He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Mary Ann Haydon Hale and their six children: Alicia O'Cull (Chuck) Ward, Charissa (Greg) Greathouse, Stephen D. (Amy) Hale II, Michael (Catherine) Hale, Matthew Walker Hale and William Haydon Hale. Also surviving are seven grandchildren: Elyssa, Nathan and Aliyah Greathouse; Meredith and Carter O'Cull, Lily and Molly Hale all of Springfield. He is also survived by his sister, Janice Burkhead of Springfield, brother-in-law, Denny Burkhead of Lewisville, Texas and his brother, Jeff (Mary Lou) Hale of Hendersonville, Tennessee.
Preceding him in death were his parents William Everett Hale, Jr. on July 11, 1990, Martha Walker Hale on Sept.17, 2000 and a son-in-law, Brian Jennings O'Cull, on Nov. 8, 2010.

Steve was a brother and a friend. He was one who always had a zest for Jesus, family and those who where hurting. Steve could always be found pouring out the love of Jesus on our city and community. Words cannot express the deep appreciation I have for my christian brother. I will miss our times of prayer and fellowship. I can still hear you singing "Give me Jesus in the morning". I'm not saying goodbye but see you in a little while. Your brother from another mother,

Steve was a wonderful friend who will be sorely missed. The day we met him he not only introduced us to the town but to family members. He always had the biggest smile. And he was so proud of his family. And his home town.

Such a presence, Steve touched everyone with his passionate, caring, and giving nature. Actually, I would easily say he was a force of nature. No amount of words will express how very much I will miss him, and same applies to how fortunate I was to know him and spend time with him and his family. My deepest condolences to every family member and all of my love, sympathy, compassion, and support to MaryAnn. Steve could not have wished for a better life or family. He always said that he was a God Blessed man, and we all know he lived life to the fullest. Not many can say what he could, and my memories of him will always inspire me to do more, to do better, and to do everything with passion and love. God's Care & Blessings to the Hale Family.

Dear Mary Ann and Hale family, Steve's passing breaks my heart for you and for the community who loves him but, I am confident of his being at peace. He certainly lived his life as a testament to his most heartfelt values--a large close-knit family embraced by his love, a heart consumed with a boldly-lived yet profoundly personal spiritual connection, a community benefited by his purposeful and practical service to others, hands that worked with a meaningful and productive commitment, a mind that recognized the worth of knowledge and learning no matter one's age or position in life, and a friendship toward all that knew the day-to-day benefit of laughter and play in our lives. Wouldn't the world be a better place if more could celebrate those same values.
