Christopher Goe Obituary

Christopher Ryan Goe, 37

Muncie - Christopher Ryan Goe, 37, of Muncie, passed away Wednesday March 2, 2016.

Christopher Ryan Goe was born on a bright and very cold day on February 11, 1979. He was the third son of Thomas and Pamela (Smith) Goe. He came into this world very quietly but the quiet did not last long. He was a happy baby who readily accepted anyone's arms. He was happy with anyone who would cuddle. Christopher had colic and his older brothers would rock him and just pound the dickens out of his back. We feared bruising, but Christopher found comfort in that and he would quickly quit crying and go to sleep for hours. His brothers had the touch although it looked somewhat bad to watch. We noticed that when Christopher should have been walking he wasn't and then soon realized that his brothers were carrying him everywhere and so no need for him to learn to walk. We put out a cease and desist order on his brothers and within three weeks we had a walking baby boy, and he was only thirteen months old. It was a milestone for his baby book.

Christopher was born in Muncie, IN and began kindergarten at Royterton Elementary and graduated from Delta High School in 1997. He attended a year at Ivy Tech and honed his building skills and became proficient at wiring and plumbing. Christopher truly was gifted to be a problem solver and while he studied to gain the ability to be successful in his trades. Many of those talents were truly God given. Christopher worked for a number of years at Muncie AMA and American Asphalt.

He was always a Royerton kid… Friends he held close and it was unusual to go anywhere with him and not have a friend approach him and there would always be a reunion of memories… Weird stories and always a hug before leaving each other… He always enjoyed the company of friends.

Christopher was really extraordinary person in a very ordinary way. He had compassion for everyone but most especially someone down and out. He had that extra kindness because he himself had been down and out many times. His kindness toward all people was always evident. He had an unlimited capacity to love. He never walked away from someone in need. Christopher was blessed to have been saved as a young adult along with his wife Mary Amber. They were buried in baptism and remained faithful for several years. Christopher and Mary were volunteer youth chaperons for 3 years and they relished that roll and the kids they were blessed to know and work with. Christopher would readily jump in and help wherever help was needed. At one of the largest funeral dinners that Old Town Hill ever had, Christopher came down to the kitchen and washed every pot, every pan, and every bowl. He was also our trash runner that day.

Christopher worked many jobs and most of his life he always worked two jobs, a full time job and then side jobs. No one could touch his work ethic. Sixteen-hour days were the norm for him. Every place he had worked would comment on what a hard worker he was and his workmanship was outstanding.

The happiest times for all of the Goe family was spent at their lake cottage. Christopher lived in the water. There was always family and friends around and bonfires on the beach at night, along with Skiing and tubing. He was a teller of "stories," and could embellish a story that would keep you on the edge of your seat for an hour. He would tell these tall tales about this big fish that he almost netted but the story would end with the big fish getting away. The funny thing was that he didn't even fish, but he sure liked to entertain with his fish stories. He would take the most mundane fact and turn it into something you really wanted to know about. When he laughed he laughed from the top of his head to the bottom of his feet. Many times we watched him roll out of a chair laughing. This kid was one in a million and someone once said, "You can go to a funeral with Chris and have a good time," and that was true. Many people can walk into a room and light it up, but when Christopher walked into the room he lit up the whole house. Christopher worked for many years at AMA, doing multiple jobs. Electrical, building, mowing all the acres at AMA and maintaining the outbuildings, and setting up for the many events they had throughout the year. His boss at AMA was John Hawley and John was a good teacher. Wiring, plumbing, and building were second nature to Christopher. He mainta8ined all the rental properties on the grounds. He worked in tool and die and one of his fun jobs was working at Party City under Savona Clay. He was absolutely in his element out there. Savona was always beyond kind and patient with him. Halloween time and all their costumes would come in and Christopher would try many of them on and walk around the store asking customers if they needed help. They did balloon bouquets and Christopher ran over and got between the girls trying to do the balloons. The customer had been informed he was the balloon master and that he'd actually done balloons for Oprah. So many customers had him do their balloons.

For all the days of sunshine and joy there was darkness that Christopher could not shake. He tried many avenues by seeking help from family, friends, counselors, programs, and in the end, the demons had caught up with him.

Christopher is survived by his parents who love and adore him; his only child, daughter, Alyvia Ryane Goe of Muncie; his brothers, Kyle Goe (wife, Bobbie) of Eaton and Andrew Goe of New Mexico; a niece, Brittany Goe of Muncie; nephew, Austin Goe (wife, Jacy); his former wife, friend and mother of his child, Mary Jones; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Christopher was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents; his mother-in-law, Deanie Metcalf; brother-in-law, Pete Metcalf; and two uncles; an aunt; and his faithful dog, Spike.

A funeral service to celebrate Christopher's life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at Garden View Funeral Home, 10501 N. State Rd. 3 in Muncie. Pastor Bruce Reynolds will officiate.

Friends and family may gather to share and remember two hours prior to service from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at Garden View Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be given to Community Baptist Food Pantry at 524 W. Howard St. Muncie, IN or the Second Harvest Food Bank at 6621 N. Old State Road 3 in Muncie.

I miss you so bad. Some days it's so hard. I look up because I think I hear your voice, but no. I think of the little things.....nights at the park swinging, nights at the ball park under the stars, just you and me. Those are the times I'll always cherish. Your hugs. Your smile. Your touch. You always knew what to say to make me feel good. You didn't have to have a dime to make me happy. Love you always baby!

Chris truly gave the best hugs and had such a beautiful smile. There are no words to tell you how much my heart hurts for all of his family. He will live on in each of your memories. You will see his smile in the sunshine, you will hear his laughter in the giggles of each other as you share the memories of the times he entertained and "held court". He is not only at peace now but he is rejoicing as he walks the streets of gold and is probably "holding court" by the crystal sea.
Love you all, many hugs and prayers.
