Larry Monroe, Sr.

Larry Monroe, Sr. was born July 27, 1948 to William Quincy Monroe and Lillie Marie Jeter-Jones in Muncie, Indiana. After his mother was promoted to glory, he was adopted by Mattie Lue Daniel and John Daniel, Jr. He is survived by his loving children and their children; Andretta Monroe: Tabby, Shareal; Larry Monroe, Jr. (Stacy): Larry, Jeremiah, Alexander, Malachi; Derrick Monroe (Ann): Chastity, April, Shyenna, Christina, Madison; John Q. Monroe: Marcus, Jontez, Zsjone; Sherry Monroe: Devonte, Vanisha, LaDale, Khalil; Kathy Patton: Lacrea, Kiara, Timothy; Belinda King (Neil): Neil Jr., Celecia, Joshua, Shekinah, Emerald; James Patton Jr.: James, Christopher, Valecia, Valencia; Sheritha Patton: Essence, Jonathon, DeAndre. 40 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren. His sister Wanda Marie Gray-Jones: Malisha, Latisha, Lanee, Arita; stepsister Tawana Daniel; stepbrothers Pastor Curtis Daniel, Donnie Rutledge, Butch Rutledge, Mikey Rutledge, Terry Rutledge; special brother Billy Butts Sr.' special nephew Ethan Jones, Sr. Special friends Julius Jackson (Duck), Clem Barnes, Ron White, Eddie Vance, Sr., Stan Christ. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and cherished friends.

Larry Monroe, Sr. enlisted in the United States Army in December of 1968 where he served as an auto mechanic and utility sergeant. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and received an Honorable discharge. He then went on to attend and graduate from the Indiana Police Academy. He joined the Muncie, Indiana Police Department in 1977 and served his community in that capacity for 21 years. Larry took pride in being a Police Officer, serving and bettering his community. He laid a moral and spiritual foundation for his children and trained them up in the ways of the Lord. Larry enjoyed fishing, horseback riding, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed when his brother-in-law Bishop John Barton came to town and rode along in his police car sharing the word of God. Larry was a gentle giant. Strong, caring, loving, well-educated, a provider, mentor, great motivator and a man of Faith.

Larry Monroe, Sr. received his wings on the afternoon of Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at the age of 72. Larry was preceded in death by his father William Quincy Monroe, his mother Lillie Marie Jeter-Jones, adoptive parents Mattie Lue Daniel and Elder John Daniel Jr. His special love and mother of his children Sherry E. Monroe. His brother Lacey Jones; sister Irene Francis Jones; son Edwin Patton; uncles Hermon Jeter, Lee Jeter, Eddie Jeter and aunt Lydia Jeter Jones. Special friends Larry Hammond, Sr. and Joe Rowe.

Calling hour will be held on Saturday June 12, 2021 from 11am-12pm at Greater Mt. Calvary Church of God In Christ, 1524 E. Butler St., Muncie, IN 47303, with a service to follow at 12pm. Burial will be held at Beech Grove Cemetery. Service entrusted to Community Family Funeral Home.
