Richard D. Arnold, 86

PORTLAND - Richard D. Arnold, 86, Portland, passed away Wednesday morning, July 8, 2015 at his residence following an extended illness.

He was born in Portland September 29, 1928 the son of the late Forrest G. and Hazel D. (Tharp) Arnold. He was a 1946 graduate of Portland High School.

He was married September 2, 1949 to Janet (Beard) Arnold, who preceded him in death in 2006. On August 4, 2012 he married Suzie (Johanning) Arnold, who survives.

He was employed by the Graphic Printing Company for forty-four years, serving as General Manager and Vice President. As a member of the First Presbyterian Church he served as deacon and trustee. He was a member of the Portland Elks Lodge #768. Dick was an avid fisherman and golfer.

Survivors include his wife, Suzie; two sons, Steven B. (wife, Bev) Arnold, Portland and Delaware County Prosecutor Jeffery L. (wife, Deb) Arnold, Muncie; two step-sons, Scott (wife, Karen) Johanning and Jeff (wife, Debi) Johanning; a brother, Jerry (wife, Melva) Arnold, Heuber Heights, OH and a sister, Sylvia Jaros, Powell, OH; six grandchildren, Jason (wife, Missy) Arnold, Andrea (husband, Tommy) Oswalt, Jessica (husband, John) Durkovich, Abby (husband, Kyle) Champ, Jagen (wife, Alison) Arnold, Derek (wife, Mandy) Arnold; eleven great-grandchildren, Sam Arnold, Ryleigh Oswalt, Eli Arnold, Grant Durkovich, Drew Durkovich, Jordyn Champ, Kenna Arnold, Addisyn Champ, Olivia Durkovich, Lillian Arnold, and Cora Arnold; seven step-grandchildren and ten step great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, and a step-son, Mark Johanning.

Funeral services are 4:00 p.m. Saturday, July 11, 2015 at First Presbyterian Church, Portland with Pastor Stan Gockel officiating.

Calling is 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will follow in Green Park Cemetery, Portland.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the Jay County Cancer Society or Little Red Door of East Central Indiana.

Oswalt Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
