Sherry Zerbe Obituary
Oneonta - Sherry Lee Zerbe was fully healed as she went to be with her Savior on Sunday, November 22, 2020. She passed away at her home where her husband had been lovingly taking care of her throughout her battle with Parkinson's Disease. Born and raised in Muncie, IN, to Pearson & Doris (Boxell) Johnson, Sherry graduated from Muncie Central High School in 1960 then went to Taylor University in Upland, IN, where she graduated in 1964 with a B.A. in Philosophy. It was at Taylor that she met Ronald and married him one month after graduation. In 1974, she moved with her husband to Otego, NY. Sherry loved her Lord Jesus and dedicated her life to following him through service to others. She served the community by helping to start the Oneonta Community Pregnancy Center, faithfully volunteering in the office of Youth For Christ, directing Pioneer Girls at Main Street Baptist Church, teaching Bible studies at West Oneonta Baptist Church, organizing libraries for both churches, and discipling many women throughout Otsego County. Her love for those around her perhaps shines most brightly in her deep dedication to her husband of 56 years, her children, and her grandchildren. Those who knew her saw the books that she surrounded herself with, heard her quiet but persistent humor, and enjoyed her wonderful kitchen creations. Sherry is survived by her husband, Dr. Ronald Zerbe; her 4 children, their spouses, and her eleven grandchildren: Daniel & Bethany Zerbe (Issac, Ben, Marita, Jeremiah), Tamara &Timothy Thurber (Miriam, Ryan, Caleb), Brian & Jennifer Zerbe (Kayla, Ethan, Micah, Elise), and Holly Zerbe & David de Gruyl. She also is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Selena and Samir Kanazeh. There will be a Memorial Service at West Oneonta Baptist Church on Wednesday, November 25, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. This service will also be streamed live. In lieu of flowers, Sherry requested donations be made to West Oneonta Baptist Church, PO Box 224, West Oneonta, NY, 13861.
