He was born November 2, 1934 in Fairfield County to the late Osborne McCorkle and Marie Green McCorkle. He died January 3, 2012 in Palmetto Baptist Hospital in Columbia. He was educated in the Fairfield County school system. He worked faithfully as a Deacon at Calvary Baptist Church in Ridgeway. He retired from the South Carolina Department of Mental Health and was owner of Big A&J Auto, Columbia, SC.
Aaron was a recording artist, songwriter, and performed with various major gospel recording artists. He was well known throughout the metropolis area for promoting major gospel artists. He was famous for his annual Christmas program, where he provided gifts for many of the children in the community.
He leaves behind his wife of 53 years, Mary Jane McCorkle of Ridgeway, SC. He also leaves to cherish is memory his children: Aaron Jr. (Patricia) of Elgin, SC, Varnell (Clarence) of Charlotte, NC, Janet (Joseph) of Ridgeway, SC, and Jerome (Jerri) of Elgin, SC; two brothers: Elijah McCorkle of Ridgeway, SC and Clarence McCorkle of Long Island, NY; three sisters: Mary Gist of Lanham, MD, Milvette Adkins of Moon Township, PA, and Lydia Pennington of Pittsburg, PA; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by three sisters: Susie Bates, Sammiebelle Jackson and Anna Mae Richardson; five brothers: Amon McCorkle, Marion McCorkle, Ramon McCorkle, Daniel McCorkle and Moses McCorkle.
Russell-McCutchen Funeral Home of Winnsboro is assisting the family with the arrangements.
