Strangely, your family was on my mind today, so I searched family names. It was then that I discovered Allen's obituary. Although Allen, Joe, Jane, and Dean are my first cousins, we rarely had the opportunity to develop the bonds of our common ancestry beyond an occasional family reunion at Lake Greenwood. Nevertheless, Jane and I did attempt to further those bonds by writing one another while she was a student at USC. Then Allen came to Saluda to visit while he was a student at Newberry, and we enjoyed getting to know one another. Our common bond as cousins was felt most profoundly when the old letters and pictures were pulled out or the stories were told around the dinner table as my father, Frederick, referred to "Sister," aka Vera, or Annice or Benjamin or your dad, aka "Joe-Boy," Robert, Yates, and Kate. I am proud of this family, their struggles, and their successes. And even at this sad time, I delight to read about the family: yours, mine, ours. I send my heartfelt sympathy to the family as we lament Allen's death. His must have been a life well-lived.

I am so awfully sorry. It seems like yesterday that he was the lifeguard at the pool. I still remember watching them head off hunting and wishing I could be just like that. He was scuba diving when all of us wanted to be like "Mike". For a young fellow growing up in Lake City, he sure was something to look up to.

Susan: I was saddened to hear of the passing of Allen. We were classmates at Newberry College; although we were in rival fraternities he most definitely was one of the "good guys". I know you and your family will miss him but trust you can take solace in knowing that love lives on forever...in the memories, in the stories, and in the hearts of all whose lives have been touched by such a great guy.

Met Allen at Newberry College when he joined KA. Almost 50 years ago. William Lorick talked a bunch of us, including Allen, into learning scuba and going to dive in Key Largo Florida. Right up Allen's alley. In later years I realized that there was something different about Allen. The depth of his kindness and sincerety. In a time of reflection 20 years ago I tracked him down to call him and thank him for his friendship but never made the call.
Thank you Joe.

I remember having a good time camping out with Allen in his back yard as his parents led our Cub Scouts. Allen always had a warm smile on his face, which brings a smile to my face even to this day. He served as our class president and was respected by everyone. I pray for comfort for the family of this fine man.

Wow! We will miss our dear friend, Allen. He was always such a fun person! My fondest memory of him is that while he was at my house one day many years ago, he drew a picture of a chicken in my yearbook and he chewed the end of a #2 pencil. I am so grateful to have had his friendship in High School. I am also grateful to know that someday I will see him again! My heartfelt condolences go out to Allen's wife and the entire family. I will be praying for all of you. Thank God for Jesus who provided a way for us to spend eternity with our friend, Allen Webb.
