Ann Ansley

Ann Ansley CAMDEN - Ann Gordon Ansley, 81, of Camden, South Carolina, wife of Hugh Cleveland Ansley, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday January 5, 2018. A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held at 11:00 AM, on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at First Baptist Church in Camden, SC. The Rev. Phillip Gerald will officiate. Burial will follow at Aiken Memorial Gardens, Aiken, SC. The family will receive friends at 10:00 AM in the Fellowship Hall adjacent to the main sanctuary, one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family would like contributions made to Community Health Clinic. Ann passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, after a sudden illness. She was a woman of strong faith, a devoted wife and mother, fiercely loyal, self-sacrificing, and an avid sports fan with a lifelong practice of serving others. Ann was as large in spirit and personality as she was small in stature. She was the smallest member of the family but possessed the greatest fight. She was the strongest advocate for her husband and the loudest fan of her children. Ann made friends easily and endeared herself to all who knew her, and she preferred to be in the middle of any activity. She eagerly participated in all sorts of games, had the ability to laugh at herself and loved time spent with grandchildren. As a nurse for the vast majority of her working career, she enjoyed helping patients, turning them into friends and catching up on their lives in chance meetings around town. Ann was born on June 3, 1936 in Vivian, LA, the daughter of the late Joseph Wallace Gordon and Lucia Owens Gordon. Ann graduated from Vivian High School, where she excelled in academics and played oboe in the marching band. She met the love of her life and future husband, Hugh Ansley, in the summer of 1954 while visiting Aiken, South Carolina. Their instant connection led to a proposal and their marriage on December 17, 1954. Together, Ann and Hugh built a family that included three sons and a daughter, and they committed to bringing this family up in the church. The family moved to Camden, South Carolina in 1969, and Ann began a career as a nurse that defined her and captured her devotion to serving others. Ann was an active member of First Baptist Church and served as a Sunday school teacher over many years. She volunteered as a fundraiser for the American Heart Association, collected school supplies for children in need, bought Christmas gifts for the underprivileged. After retirement, Ann volunteered her time with the Community Health Clinic. Ann leaves behind a legacy of unyielding faith, unconditional love, unselfish service, pride in her family, devotion to her husband and a standard for commitment to the people and causes that matter most in life. Mrs. Ansley is survived by her husband of 63 years, Hugh Cleveland Ansley; sons, Mickey Ansley (Becky) of Blythewood, SC, Terry Ansley (Sharon) of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Mark Ansley (Peter) of Philadelphia, PA; daughter, Jacquelyn Ansley (Holly) of Knoxville, TN; grandchildren, Katie, Laura (John), Allison (Andrew), Sarah, Rachel, Connor, Brian, Madison; and great grandchildren, Kaylie, Rivers, and James.
