Born May 26, 1922, in Yemassee, SC, he was the son of the late Benjamin Josselson, Sr. and Annie Elizabeth Boynton Josselson. After graduating in 1943 from Clemson College, Mr. Josselson served his country in the United States Army during World War II in the European Theater and afterward he was a member of the S.C. National Guard, retiring as a 1st Lt. He began his career as a farmer, was a rice planter in the Savannah Refuge, was the owner of Melons, Inc., a watermelon brokerage company, and also was the owner of Kingstowne, Inc., an outdoor advertising business. He was a member of the Hampton County Chamber of Commerce, the S.C. Watermelon Association and Ebenezer United Methodist Church, having served for many years as the chairman of the finance committee. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing, but the great love of his life was his family.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Adelaide Best Josselson; his two daughters, Lynn J. Land and husband Joseph Land of Charleston and Robyn J. Shirley and husband Dr. Paul Shirley of Bluffton; and his niece, Orral Anne Willis Moss of Beaufort. He is also survived by the his granddaughters, Mary Courtney L. Brooks of Charleston, Meredith L. Moore of Dallas, TX, Lauren Land of New York City, NY and Adelaide Shirley and Anna Camden Shirley, both of Bluffton.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 29, 2008, at the Ebenezer United Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. Lois Helms and Rev. Beverly Kennedy and directed by Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home of Hampton. The burial will be private.
Friends may call Monday evening from 6 until 8 at his residence, 187 Salkehatchie Road, Yemassee, SC 29945.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in his honor to: Ebenezer United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 404, Yemassee, SC 29945 or Hampton Regional Medical Center, 595 W. Carolina Avenue, Varnville, SC 29944.
