Mr. Freeman was born June 30, 1916, a son of the late Rufus and Carrie Branham Freeman. He served as a Staff Sergeant in the Army during WWII. Mr. Freeman understood the order of life as God first, family second and work last. Mr. Freeman was dedicated to Killian Baptist Church, where he was a former deacon, a member of the Brotherhood and Adult Sunday School classes. He was a pioneer in the tree care industry by partnering with C.L. Sox in 1948 to form Sox and Freeman Tree Expert Co. With honesty and professionalism, Sox and Freeman grew to be the Midlands oldest and largest tree company. At age 87, Mr. Freeman decided to retire with 67 years of commitment to the industry.
Survivors include his sons, Herbert (Linda) Freeman, Larry (Marvie) Freeman, and Chris (Donna) Freeman; daughter, Jennie (Chris) Smyrl; brothers, Woodrow Freeman, Melvin Freeman; grandchildren, Jason (Amanda) Freeman, Joshua (Lindsey) Freeman, Justin Freeman, Lauren Freeman and Kristen (Allen) Knight; and great-grandson, Blake Knight. Mr. Freeman was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Trapp Freeman, and his sisters, Cora Slice, Katie Freeman, Janie Freeman, Rosa Wingard, and brothers, Alvin, Johnny and James.
A very special thanks to Bridget Felder, Brittany Felder, Dorothy Hart, Carolyn Green and Pamela Bonner for their loving care and assistance for our dad.
