Carlton Spivey Sr.

Deacon Carlton Spivey, Sr. COLUMBIA - Mr. Carlton Spivey was born April 2, 1931 in Jacksonville, FL to the late Charley and Lena Sterling Spivey. He passed away on January 19, 2016, surrounded by loving family. Carlton was married to Esther R. Spivey, his loving wife of 32 years, who preceded him in death. Mr. Spivey retired from the United States Army after serving 27 years. He was a veteran of World War II and the Vietnam War. After retiring from the military, he began working at the Manning Correction Institute and at the Central Correction Institute, retiring from both in 1983. Deacon Spivey was a faithful member of Jehovah Baptist Church in Columbia until his health began to fail. He is survived by: his children, Carlton (Michele) and Joyce Spivey; four grandsons: Buran Blackwell, Joshua Boyd, Isaiah and Camryn Spivey; three great-granddaughters: Journey, Janiah and Alaysia Spivey; aunt, Pat McGraw; and a god-granddaughter, Renee Starr. The Homegoing Service for Deacon Spivey will be held Saturday, January 23, 2016, 1:00 p.m., at Jehovah Baptist Church, 1540 Frye Road, Columbia, with burial in St. Matthews Baptist Church No. 2 Cemetery in Blair, SC. Bostick-Tompkins Funeral Home, 2930 Colonial Drive, Columbia, has been entrusted with the arrangements.
