Carlton Spivey Obituary

Deacon Carlton Spivey, Sr. COLUMBIA - Mr. Carlton Spivey was born April 2, 1931 in Jacksonville, FL to the late Charley and Lena Sterling Spivey. He passed away on January 19, 2016, surrounded by loving family. Carlton was married to Esther R. Spivey, his loving wife of 32 years, who preceded him in death. Mr. Spivey retired from the United States Army after serving 27 years. He was a veteran of World War II and the Vietnam War. After retiring from the military, he began working at the Manning Correction Institute and at the Central Correction Institute, retiring from both in 1983. Deacon Spivey was a faithful member of Jehovah Baptist Church in Columbia until his health began to fail. He is survived by: his children, Carlton (Michele) and Joyce Spivey; four grandsons: Buran Blackwell, Joshua Boyd, Isaiah and Camryn Spivey; three great-granddaughters: Journey, Janiah and Alaysia Spivey; aunt, Pat McGraw; and a god-granddaughter, Renee Starr. The Homegoing Service for Deacon Spivey will be held Saturday, January 23, 2016, 1:00 p.m., at Jehovah Baptist Church, 1540 Frye Road, Columbia, with burial in St. Matthews Baptist Church No. 2 Cemetery in Blair, SC. Bostick-Tompkins Funeral Home, 2930 Colonial Drive, Columbia, has been entrusted with the arrangements. The visitation will be held this evening at the funeral home, 6-7:00 p.m. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.bosticktompkinsinc.com.

Joyce, Our thoughts and earnest prayers extend to you and your family. Deacon Spivey was truly and anointed man of God and exuded the Joy of Our Lord which was always a strength. Please allow the Holy Spirit to do His Job and that is to comfort you at this time. May God strengthen each of you as you take comfort in the fact that Deacon Spivey is no longer in pain and has received the ultimate healing as he enjoys the presence of his King--our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Know that our family is with you in any and all ways in which you may need us to be.
