Charles Henry "Chuck" Moorefield III

March 30, 1951 - February 5, 2025

Columbia, South Carolina - Charles Henry "Chuck" Moorefield III died on February 5th, 2025 in Ormond Beach, Florida. He was born on March 30th, 1951 in Charlotte, North Carolina to Charles Henry and Louise Crawford Moorefield.

A few years later, his family moved to their childhood town of Columbia, South Carolina. He tended A.C. Moore, Hand Junior High and Dreher High School before enrolling at Darlington Academy in Rome, Georgia. Chuck both attended and later taught at Isabel Whaley Sloan's Ballroom Dancing School in Columbia.

After graduating school, Chuck attended the University of South Carolina graduating in 1973. He did graduate work in psychology the year following graduation, and was a member of the Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity, which he enjoyed immensely.

The following year, he worked as a salesman for AGS for several years before moving to Mexico to attend the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara school of Medicina in 1975 for 2 years of classroom medical study before transferring to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, graduating in 1981.

Chuck moved to Orlando Florida to begin his residency in orthopedic surgery at Orlando Regional Medical Center, and then successfully established and maintained his own family medical practice serving families of Orlando for 30 plus years until his retirement. He was an active member in his community and served on various American Medical Association Committees.

In Orlando, Chuck found joy raising his children at the lake house he had always dreamed of building. Whether cruising on the pontoon boat, grilling out, or hosting family and friends, he cherished every moment there. He took pride in his garden, growing watermelons, banana trees, and citrus from seed.

His legendary "earliest" Christmas parties were a highlight of the year, where his commanding presence and hilarious storytelling captivated every guest. Chuck's warmth, generosity, and larger-than-life personality made his home a place of laughter and lasting memories. Chuck also enjoyed ushering at All Saints Episcopal Church in Orlando.

On December 23rd, 2019, he married the love of his life Dolores DiVita. He and his beloved "Dee" moved to Ormond Beach in 2023. Chuck was warm and bright and had an incredible sense of humor making people smile when they were with him.

He was also a talented athlete playing baseball and football in high school, and eventually enjoying the sport of Golf and Tennis at the Isleworth and County Club of Orlando in his later years. His unforgettable onion rings and thrice-baked sweet potatoes were legendary. He touched many lives and will be deeply missed.

Chuck was predeceased by his parents, aunts and uncles. He is survived by his devoted wife Dee Moorefield and his 3 children, Charles IV, Grace and William Moorefield. He is also survived by his sister Jessie Spencer and her husband Bill McPherson of Jackson, Mississippi and his brother Crawford and wife Zeina of Houston, Texas, and his nieces.

A memorial service celebrating Chuck's life will be held at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, 1100 Sumter St, Columbia, SC at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, February 12, 2025. There will be a private burial service for Chuck at Elmwood Cemetery prior to the memorial service. Honorary Pallbearers are Alvin Strasburger, Tom Bryan and Geddings Crawford. In lieu of funeral flowers or gifts to charity, Chuck requested that you give flowers to a loved one.

We were neighbors for many years and remained friends when he left our neighborhood. He was one of a kind and we are thankful we had him as long as we did. Rest in Peace in your beloved South Carolina!

Dr. Chuck was like a jolly uncle to me growing up. He and my father became extremely close friends, sharing the same sense of humor and indulging in a good time. My dad and Chuck shared a SeaDoo together and I loved spending lake days at Dr. Chucks house enjoying it. I recall many times my parents dressed up to go out with the Moorefields. Chuck remained our family doctor my whole childhood until his retirement. He holds a special place in our hearts.
