Claire McGee Obituary

Claire Redman McGee HARTSVILLE - Claire Redman McGee died at her home on Thursday, December 20, 2018, surrounded by her loving husband and family. Claire was born in Walterboro, SC, April 19, 1933, to the late Bessie Tumblestone Redman and Murrie Redman. She grew up on her family's farm on Yonges Island, SC, with four younger siblings, attended St. Paul's High School and after graduation, went on to Coker College. There she met James (Jim) Gladney McGee, Jr. and they were married June 29, 1953. Together, in Hartsville, they lovingly raised their family; Renee and husband, Wally Bock, Claire and husband, Harry Howle and Jim III and wife, Kathy McGee. Claire was an active member of St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church and her community. She was a superb gardener, cook, and hostess. Her love of learning was never quenched. She and Jim traveled extensively and she was known for her detailed research before her trips. Claire also enjoyed many sports including basketball, tennis, golf and water aerobics. She never turned down a chance to play bridge, go antiquing, read a book or enjoy her friends. Family and friends were always close to her heart. Claire loved her grandchildren, Harry, Mac, Elizabeth, Will, Glenn, Cissy, and Jim IV. She sought out their company at every opportunity and was delighted at the newest generation of great-grandchildren. Claire was passionate about life and lived it to the fullest with her beloved, Jim. She is survived by Jim, her husband of 65 years, her three children, seven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Wesley Redman, and brother-in-law, Glenn McGee. The outpouring of love and support during Claire's illness will always be treasured. Jim and the family would also like to thank Nadine Robinson for her loving care and devotion along with Edna Terry, LaToya Lucas, Lesa Carter, Dr. Mac Chapman, Jill Eddy, and Teresa Smith. In lieu of flowers, consider making a donation in Claire's memory to St Bartholomew's Episcopal Church, 103 Campus Drive, Hartsville, SC, 29550 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tn 38105. The celebration of Claire's life will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, December 23, 2018, at St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church. A visitation will follow the service in the Parish Hall. A private burial will be held at a future date.
