Cooter Corbett Obituary

Cooter Corbett

July 23, 1941 - October 2, 2025

Rembert, South Carolina - Curtis O'Neil Corbett, known affectionately to many as "Cooter," was born on July 23, 1941, in Lee County, South Carolina, to the late Curtis O'Neil Corbett, Sr. and Ila Mae Davis Corbett. His life was a spirited testament that every day is a gift to be filled with adventures, laughter, and love. This dedicated soul left us on October 2, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of strength, laughter, and an undying love for his family and community. He honorably served his country in the United States Army.

Curtis, an adventurous spirit, had an undeniable zest for life. He was a respected Senior Maintenance Foreman at the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SC DOT) for 44 years, where his dedication and commitment were evident. His infectious laughter and funny Cooterisms often lightened the spirit of his colleagues. Outside of work, Curtis was a Certified Pit Master, known far and wide for his BBQ' award-winning chili and especially his secret sauce. His love for barbecuing, was not merely a hobby but a testament to his larger-than-life personality and his ability to bring people together. He was also an active member of the Masonic Lodge 188 and the Camden Shrine Club, where he served with the same dedication and spirit he displayed in every aspect of his life.

Curtis' love for his tractor was only surpassed by his love for his family and his grandchildren were his pride and joy, and he never missed an opportunity to attend their sporting events and recitals.

Surviving are his daughters, Karen Wetherbee (Kevin) of Rembert and Donna Driggers (David) of Camden; sister, Laura Rusher (William) of Bishopville; brother, Steve Corbett of Camden; grandchildren, Kayla Joyner, Robert Joyner (Michelle), Kelsey Hopkins, Abbigale Driggers, Neil Driggers (Tinley); and great-grandchildren, Kaiden, Kennedy, Ella Kate, Easton, Peyton, Macon, Laine, and Wilder. He was predeceased by a sister-in-law, Becky Corbett.

The visitation will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2025, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, 832 Ridgeway Road, Lugoff, South Carolina, 29078.
