David Olexa Obituary

David Franklin Olexa IRMO - The Mass of Christian Burial for David Franklin Olexa, 65, will be celebrated 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 11, 2014, at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, Chapin, SC, with final commendation and farewell prayers in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Thursday, April 10, 2014, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, Irmo. Dr. David Olexa passed away Monday, April 7, 2014, surrounded by his family and friends. Born in Morgantown, WV, he was a son of Wanda Marie Latusek Olexa and the late Michael Olexa. He was a graduate of West Virginia University, Indiana State University and the University of South Carolina. He was a Title One School Psychologist with Richland School District One, retiring in 2006. David was a highly respected psychologist and cared greatly for the children and families with whom he worked. He was well loved by his fellow psychologists, friends and especially family. He will be greatly missed. Surviving are his wife of 41 years, Carol Ann Reed Olexa; sons, Steven Aaron Olexa (Jennifer) of Columbia and Phillip Andrew Olexa (Gabrielle) of Charlotte; grandson, Ashton Monroe Olexa; his mother of Morgantown, WV; brother, Michael T. Olexa (Colleen) of Gainsville, FL; sisters, Debra M. Olexa of Morgantown, and Sandra K. Smith (Timothy) of Fredericksburg, VA. Carol,
We just found out talking to Mutt. So sorry to hear of Dave's passing. We are next door to you at Lake Murray. Didn't see Dave too often, but will miss his friendly nature. Sympathy to your family.

Carol, Steven, and Phil,

I am so sorry for your loss. Dave was such a wonderful person and I know he will be missed. I will never forget when he chaperoned the Disney Trip with Honors Art. We were in a show and they were asking people where they were from and they were yelling out the state that they came from. When they asked Dave, he yelled out, "Irmo!"...like surely everyone in the country would know where that was. That got us a few looks. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.
