Bostick-Tompkins Funeral Home, 2930 Colonial Drive, is in charge of the arrangements.
Master Cherry went home to be an angel with the Lord on June 13, 2008, after a courageous battle with Leukemia. He was the beloved son of Shawn Cherry and Chanda Livingston. He was a student at Irmo Elementary School and a member of New Light United Methodist Church in Neeses, SC.
His fight with cancer was a blessing to many in the community because of the successful blood drive that took place last summer at Saint John Baptist Church in his honor. He will be missed by all those whose lives he so lovingly touched. Donations may be made to the DeShawn Cherry Memorial Fund at Bank of America locations.
De’Shawn is lovingly survived by his father, Shawn Cherry; mother, Chanda Livingston; sister, Jasmine Cherry; grandparents, Eddie and Ann Livingston, Shirley (Tim) Leach and Judge Cherry; great-grandmother, Lucille Myers; godmother, Tanya Derrick; godsister, Tyniah Wilson.

Chanda, Ann and Ed,
I have no words of comfort for I know that I can't make it easier for you with words. I am praying for you all and asking God to wrap his loving arms around you and catch your tears, to help you through each day and to let memories of your sweet little boy keep you going through each day.
Know that our hearts are breaking for you all but we are joyful that De'Shawn is healthy and happy in his Heavenly home.

In My Pocket
I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.
My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.
They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.
Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.
But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

Hi, I'm De'Shawn's cousin, to the rest of the family I just want to say that God will bring us through this! Yes it's hard for us to understand now, but I know in my heart that He will certainly make a way! To De'Shawn I just want to say: Babe I'm going to miss you with all my heart, but I promise I'll never forget you. Everything I do from this day forward will be for you. I can't wait to see you again, and I promise we will!!

De'Shawn will truly be missed by my granddaughter, Dori Herring. She and De'Shawn have been friends and classmates since kindergarten. I have fond memories of De'Shawn. I remember every time he would see me he would give me a hug and and say, "Hi! Dori's Grandma". You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. De'Shawn has mad a very big impact on all who knew him.

To the family of De 'Shawn: You do not know me but I am truly praying for you at this time. God WILL take you through this. There is NOTHING too hard for God to do. Always remember De 'Shawn's love for you and yours for him. Always remember the cute, funny, exciting, loving, joyous, and spiritual things about him and hold them dear in your heart. He does not have to fight any more. For De'Shawn to be absent from the body is for him to be present with the Lord. He's having a beautiful time in heaven now. I encourage you to serve God wholly and you too will see your son again.
Love in Christ,

A Poem for Chanda and her Family,
The World’s Greatest Wrestler
The world’s greatest wrestler was not a man of bulked-up muscles, not a man of physical strength, not a man with a roaring voice.
The world’s greatest wrestler was not found in a professional wrestling ring nor did he defeat 20 famous contenders over a long career.
The world's greatest wrestler never won a championship belt.
The world’s greatest wrestler was 11 years old, a small framed boy with a kind spirit and a smile that lit up a room.
The world’s greatest wrestler fought leukemia, an opponent within his own body, with the greatest strength of mind, heart and soul.
The world's greatest wrestler was a champion who won more hearts in his short lifetime than any professional wrestler ever could.
The world’s greatest wrestler has left us now but the strength of his spirit will reside in the loved ones he left behind.
The world's greatest wrestler was De'Shawn Tyrell Cherry, loved by so many because he touched so many lives.

May you all find peace and comfort in the beautiful memories of De'Shawn!

Mrs. Livingston and family, I am the sister of Mrs. Teri Rhodes, one of DeShawn's teachers at Irmo Elemetary who tutored DeShawn at your home during his illness. My sister cared so much for DeShawn and through her I felt like I knew DeShawn myself. I had the pleasure of meeting DeShawn at First Baptist Church when we all attended the Christmas program together with others from Irmo Elementary. And I met you, Mrs. Livingston, when we had the 5-K Walk/Run for DeShawn at Irmo Elementary this spring. DeShawn was quite an impressive young man and I know he will be missed greatly. DeShawn has had a profound impact on my sister, Mrs. Rhodes, and my whole family through her. May God bless you during this difficult time and give you peace, just as DeShawn is now at peace in his eternal rest.

I have known you for a very short time. But I remember the stories you have told me about De'Shawn and as much we have laughed together. I felt that both of you have been a small part of my family. I have watched the fight in him, and little did you know that he has helped me to became a fighter myself, I hope to be as strong and determined as him. I love the both of you very much.

To the Family
I can only imagine all the lives that "Big Daddy" touched; including my own through the joy, the love, the encourgement, and his awesome display of being a true champion . He did not loose his fight but gained the victory of the Kingdom of Heaven. His memory, beauty, charm, and determination will forever be etched in my heart. I am a better person for having known of him and for having witnessed the grace of Christ that was always covering him. May each of you in the days to come find comfort in knowing that this one special beautiful young child was given the power to touch thousands of lives in a postive way and for that the legacy of his "fighting Spirit" will always be a source of encourgement and hope for others in their personal journey of faith

To Chandra, Ms. Livingston and family, De'Shawn will be an everlasting part of our family. He and Josh have souls knitted together as friends, like Jonathan and David in the old Testament and that love can never be broken. Words are not adequate to express the positive impact he has made on our lives. We loved De'Shawn and he will be missed but never forgotten.

Chanda,
You do not know me but I heard wonderful things about your son. I wanted to let you know how sorry I am for your lost. There are not enough words to console a person during this time. All I can say is to trust in God and know that he is always with you. May God Bless you and your family.
