Donald Byars Obituary

Donald Lynn Byars GASTON Donald Lynn Byars, 65, known as "Don" to family and friends, passed away February 13, 2018. Don, born in Spartanburg, South Carolina on November 24, 1952, was a graduate of James F. Byrnes High School and the University of South Carolina. He was the son of the late Fred and Martha Byars. Don was a compassionate man who loved life, but loved his family more. He loved cooking for church functions and riding his Harley trike. If there was a helping hand needed, Don was there to help, no matter the task or for whom. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Diane, a son, Major Blake Byars (Sunny) of Fort Meade, Maryland and a daughter, Peyton Byars of Columbia, South Carolina. Don had three grandchildren, Paige, Matthew and Benecio Byars and one expected granddaughter, Petra Lynn Byars. He is also survived by a sister, Vicki Hadden (Curtis) from Duncan, South Carolina. Don loved all his family equally to include brother and sister in laws, their spouses and children. Don had no expectation for his love which he gave freely and willingly to all. Services for Don will be held at Trinity Baptist Church, 2003 Charleston Highway, Cayce, South Carolina on February 15, 2018 at 3:00 pm and will be officiated by Dr. Eddie Coakley, Senior Pastor and Wes McKinney, Associate Pastor. Visitation will be held one hour before the service at the church. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens located at 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, South Carolina. Memorials in Don's memory can be made to Operation Homefront, 1355 Central Parkway S, Suite 100, San Antonio, Texas 78232 or a charity of one's choice. Diane,

We always enjoyed Don's visits to SOM after he died. The last time I saw him was on one of those visits when he rode his "trike" here. I will always remember how we stood in the window and watched him ride off. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
