Donald Wayne "Don" Cothran
January 24, 1942 - October 15, 2021
Columbia, South Carolina - Don Cothran, 79, died Friday, October 15, 2021, at his home surrounded by his family and friends, from complications of Parkinson's Disease. He was born in Spartanburg, January 24, 1942, to Charles and Bessie Cothran. He graduated from Dentsville High School, was a U.S. Army veteran with a tour in Vietnam and retired from Carolina Ceramics (brickyard). Don enjoyed woodwork, cooking/entertaining, and traveling with family and friends. With a quick wit, he easily made people smile and laugh.
Don is survived by his wife of 54 years, Linda; his son Michael and "daughter-in-love" Cynthia Harbin Cothran; sisters Linda Risinger, West Columbia; and Dorothy Ferguson, Columbia; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, brother Larry, and his in-laws, Tony and Grace Gallant.
Don was a former member and deacon at Temple Baptist Church and currently a member of Shandon Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to either Shandon Baptist Church's Victory Ranch Ministry or their Chain Saw Ministry (5250 Forest Drive, Columbia 29206).
Visitation for Don Cothran will be held 12:00PM - 1:45 PM Tuesday, October 19, 2021, at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29209. A graveside service will follow the visitation at 2:00 PM in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
