Born in Orangeburg County she was a daughter of the late Richard Ashley McCreary, Sr. and Loulie Holley McCreary. She was an active member of Park Street Baptist Church in Columbia. Rev. and Mrs. Clayton served churches in Kentucky, Florida, Texas and Tennessee where she served as wedding coordinator at Bellevue Baptist Church in Memphis.
Survivors include her husband, Rev. Thomas McSwain Clayton, Sr. of the home; daughters, Bonnie C. Brown of Snellville, Ga., Cheryl C. (Carroll) Garris of Columbia, SC; sons, Rev. Thomas McSwain (Tamara) Clayton, Jr. of Dallas, Tx., Rev. Charles Ashley (Sharon) Clayton of Nashville, Tenn.; eleven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by sisters, Juliette Refo, Virginia McCreary and a brother, Richard Ashley McCreary, Jr.
