Douglas Rowell Obituary

Douglas Davis Rowell COLUMBIA Douglas Davis Rowell, 86, of Columbia, died Thursday, January 18, 2018. Born in Trio, SC on March 16, 1931, he was the son of the late Doc Rhett Rowell and Gene Welchel Rowell. Mr. Rowell worked for Seaboard Air Line Railroad and it was his favorite topic to talk about. In 1963, he married Sara Beth Purvis. He was a member of Shandon United Methodist Church. Mr. Rowell is survived by his son, Davis R. Rowell (Barbara); and granddaughter, Eden Sarah Rowell. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Lois Rowell Inabinet and Mary Jo Rowell Stone. The service for Mr. Rowell will be held 11 o'clock, Saturday, January 27th at Shandon United Methodist Church with Rev. Josh McClendon officiating. The family will greet friends immediately following at the church. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shandon United Methodist Church, 3407 Devine Street, Columbia, SC 29205. The family would like to extend a special thanks to all of his neighbors on Hagood Avenue, especially Karen Hardy, Tim Wert and Nancy Lane.
