Elizabeth Byrd Obituary

Elizabeth Yarborough Byrd COLUMBIA - Elizabeth Yarborough Byrd, 92, widow of Hilburn Miller Byrd, passed away on Friday, December 5, 2014, after an extensive illness. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 9, 2014, at Main Street United Methodist Church, Ferguson Chapel. Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 12 noon until 1:00 p.m. in the church parlor. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family. Mrs. Byrd was born on November 9, 1922, in Scranton, Florence County, the daughter of the late John Calhoun Yarborough and Lily Mae Godwin Yarborough. She married and made her home in Columbia. She was a faithful member of Main Street United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school and served as secretary of her circle, and the United Methodist Women. She retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, in 1984 after many years of service. Mrs. Byrd is survived by her son, Jim Byrd and his wife, Bonnie of Lexington; daughters, Sharon E. Byrd of Columbia, Judy Byrd Davis and her husband, John, of Hartsville; grandchildren, Lea Davis of Florence, Kevin Davis (Cassandra) of Spartanburg, Andy Price (Lesley) of Abbeville, Ben Price of Gilbert, Ken Byrd (Heather) of Augusta, Ga., Julie Byrd of Lexington; and six great-grandchildren, Cameron Davis, Ryan Davis, Mary Price, Mason Price, Maxwell Price, and Everett Price. Mrs. Byrd was predeceased by her daughters, Betty Marie Byrd of Columbia, JoAnne Byrd Price and her husband, Terry of Gilbert; daughter-in-law, Nikki Price of Gilbert; brothers, Legrande, Carlton, Elston, and Charles Yarborough and her cousin, Ruby Yarborough. The family wishes to thank the dedicated caregivers at Lexington Extended Care, Lexington Trace, and the caregivers and volunteers from Tri-County Hospice for their loving care.
